LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Dolphin Families,
We have had an exciting and memorable week at Denny International Middle School, filled with joy, laughter, and learning. I am thrilled to share two remarkable events that showcased the talent and spirit of our school community.
On Wednesday, our Out of School Time Drama team delivered a fantastic performance of "All I Really Need to Know I Learned by Being in a Bad Murder Mystery." The feedback from the packed audience was overwhelmingly positive, with many describing the show as hilarious and amazing. Our scholars had a blast performing, and it was heartwarming to see them shine on stage. We extend our deepest gratitude to Mr. Boney, Mr. Bonnici, and Ms. Bennett for providing this wonderful opportunity for our scholars.
Following this incredible production, we hosted our Multicultural Night on Thursday. The event was a true celebration of diversity, filled with great food, meaningful conversations, and a lot of joy. The Galleria was bustling with activity as our scholars proudly presented their cultures and served delicious dishes to our community. A huge shout out to Mr. Boney and his team for organizing this fantastic event. It was a night to remember, highlighting the rich cultural tapestry that makes our school so special.
Denny International Middle School is truly exceptional because of the amazing experiences and special moments created by our scholars, staff, families, and community members. Thank you for your continued support and involvement in making our school a vibrant and welcoming place.
Warmly,
Mary Ingraham

End of Year Community Building and Celebration Fieldtrips
We are going to bring our year full circle by ending the year with grade level fieldtrips just like how we started the year. Each grade level started the year off with a fieldtrip to Lincoln Park and doing community building activities and we are planning on ending the year with a fieldtrip to Golden Gardens to further community build and celebrate our year together. This has been a longtime tradition at Denny and we are excited to continue it. If you would like to support this meaningful tradition by donating funds to help support getting buses, please use the link below or the QR code. We are so excited for this great opportunity to celebrate!

8th Grade Promotion
Dear Parents/Guardians of Denny Eighth Graders:
As a way to celebrate your child completing middle school with us, we are having our
Eighth Grade Promotion Ceremony on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at 7:00 pm in the Denny/Sealth Auditorium. Scholars should “dress up” but formal evening wear is unnecessary. Due to the fact that the Promotion Ceremony will begin promptly at 7:00 pm, 8th graders will be asked to be lined up with their homeroom class by 6:30pm.
Each 8th grader will be given an envelope with three tickets for promotion (8th graders do not need a ticket themselves). Due to fire code restrictions, you must have a ticket to attend the ceremony. Young children who can sit on a lap (e.g. ages 2 and under) do not need a ticket. As we have more 8th-grade scholars promoting this year, please limit your request to only one additional ticket, and we will try to accommodate it. If your family needs an additional ticket, please complete the online request form no later than 5pm on Sunday, June 16.
Requests for additional tickets will only be considered if we have additional tickets to provide after allotting one additional to each person making a request. If you will not need all three tickets, students should return any extra ticket to Ms. Roach in Room 312E so they can be redistributed. Please direct any questions about tickets for promotion to Assistant Principal Audrey Roach at amroach@seattleschools.org or 206-252-8950.
We are looking forward to celebrating this accomplishment with you and your child!
Sincerely,
Mary Ingraham, Principal

Summer Skills Center student application is open: 8th graders can apply!
The Seattle Skills Center summer application is open now for all high school students and this year's 8th graders. Here are some details:
Skills Center Student Summer Schedule
Tuesday, July 9 to Tuesday, July 30
In-person: 10:30am to 3:00pm, Monday through Friday
Asynchronous: 1.75 hours of asynchronous work per day for each of the 16 days.
Daily in person hours: 4.5
Daily remote hours: 1.75
- Summer Skills Center classes are a great way for incoming 9th graders to get an early start on high school credit, make new friends, and explore college and career pathways well before they finish high school.
- Students earn a .5 HS CTE credit (and Family Health counts towards their HS Health class requirement, but is not open to incoming 9th graders).
- A Summer Skills Center class is a "real class" with "real grades" (I always remind students of this), so their grade goes on their high school transcript.
- Students can only miss a maximum of 3 classes.
- Transportation is not provided.
- A translated email has gone out to all 8th-11th grade families, and classes fill fast, so please share this info with your students, especially those students who you think would benefit from earning a .5 CTE credit this summer.
- We have two Intro to Maritime Vessel Operations classes, and the class aboard the schooner Adventuress has a different schedule and other requirements (see application for details)
(And we have a couple classes right next door at Chief Sealth International! Intro to Construction Trades, and Intro to Media Arts)

RESOURCES & INFORMATION
Life Science Explorers Program
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
A hands-on research experience for middle school students over the age of 12. Over 9 sessions students will complete an original research workflow, using DNA as a tool to identify moss species. Alongside this work participants will complete a curriculum covering molecular biology, ecology and exploration of life science careers.
Participants will be supported by a team of volunteer instructors including multiple professional biologists, keen to share their knowledge and skills to support young scientists.
We plan to run 2 cohorts of this program in 2024, and, depending on funding, multiple times per year after that.

Then places will be offered in the order that applications were received.
Applications will be reviewed and then awarded in the order that they were received.
Apply via this short google form
COST
This program will be offered completely free in 2024 thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, including the Society for Science STEM Action Grant. We are still preparing the application process and will update this page as we do so.
We ask everyone who is able to set up a recurring donation of any amount. We are a community powered organization, with only 1 staff member. Our volunteers donate almost $200, 000 of their time per year to deliver cutting edge science education and research experiences. All donations are put to immediate effect to ensure that we can create new programs and remove barriers to participation in science. Donations are not in any way tied to application screening for this program.
