March is for Mastery
The Cougars are ready for March!
Mastery March - March is when "Masterys" are made -
Cougars are working toward Mastery on LEAP! We have less than 25 instructional days left for the teaching and learning to truly impact how well our students will do on their LEAP exam April 16 -26th. We are less than 12 weeks away from the end of the school year when all of our Southeast Middle Cougars will have the opportunity to be be promoted to the next grade. This is why it is so important that they keep doing their best in the classroom and make positive behavior choices. Cell phone usage has increased despite the administration reminding students every day that they are not allowed and should be OFF, and away ALL day. This had caused concern by administration, faculty, and staff with students who choose not to follow the rules in the handbook. Students are refusing to turn phones off and using phones inappropriately during the school day. Middle school students already struggle with the many academic and social adjustments faced in the middle grades. The added responsibility of keeping their cell phones off and away add additional challenges. We are seeing students who have no discipline history, risk their discipline record to use a cell phone. Parents can help by having students keep their cell phones at home. This is the only sure way they are not tempted to use it on campus. Many of the phones are confiscated by faculty and staff, which requires a mandatory meeting with the principal, the student and parent. This causes inconvenience to all involved. We should be focused on preparing for testing and finishing the school year strong, unfortunately, harsher consequences have to be enforced this late in the year when students intentionally break the rules that have been in place all year. Parents, we need your help more than ever. Cell phones are best used at home where parents can supervise use and monitor phone activity; cell phones are ruining our school culture and students are making poor choices that are having a negative effect on their education. Thank you in advance parents for understanding and partnering with us to solve the cell phone issue. Parents have been the answer to so many of the issues we have overcome this year and we appreciate you. We just want to keep the focus on the teaching and the learning and making every day a great day to be a Cougar!

Club Day Shoutout to the Chess Club
The Chess Club is sponsored by Ms. Abadie and meets once a month. When playing chess, your brain will be challenged to exercise logic, develop pattern recognition, make decisions both visually and analytically, and test your memory. Chess can be enjoyed by any age—as a result, these brain exercises can be part of the health of your brain for your entire life! There are many bonds to be created through any game, and when meeting on a regular basis, chess is no different. This is a great way to make friendships and socialize.
