Wednesday, September 20 is the first early release day for the year. For Byam, our dismissal time is 11:45 am. We open our side gates at 11:35 to begin staging vehicles for pick ups. Lunches are not served on early release days. If your child will be going home in a different manner than their typical Wednesday, please inform their teacher and office.

Open House Curriculum Night is such an important part of home-school partnership. This evening gives parents/guardians a chance to learn about our plans for the school year.

Below are the hours for our Curriculum Open House on Wednesday, September 20.

Grades K-2- 5:00-6:15

Parents/Guardians will begin the evening in the dining room at 5:00 pm for some brief remarks by Mr. Fredette and Mrs. Dolan. They will then proceed to the classrooms for the teacher's presentation.

Specialists, Special Education and Support Staff- 6:15-7:00

These staff members will be available in their classrooms/offices during the above time block. Grades 3-4 parents/guardians may visit after their classroom presentation and grades K-2 parents/guardians can visit before the presentation time below.

Grades 3-4- 7:00-8:15

Parents/Guardians will begin the evening in the dining room at 7:00 pm for some brief remarks by Mr. Fredette and Mrs. Dolan. They will then proceed to the classrooms for the teacher's presentation.

Open House is always was of our most highly attended events of the school year. To assist with parking, Lockheed Martin (across the street at 16 Maple Rd.) has graciously offered to open up their parking lot for Byam families during Open House. We strongly encourage families to park in their lot and give yourself ample time to walk over to attend the first portion of the evening. We have shifts of staff and families coming throughout the evening and Lockheed Martin offers your easiest way to find parking.

At Byam, as part of our Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) system, we utilize the the 3 Rs (Respectful, Responsible, Ready) expectations in locations throughout the building.

Each week we'll be highlighting different 3R expectations locations as part of our morning intercom and weekly announcements. Next week we'll be highlighting 3R's in the classrooms/specialists.

These expectations are explicitly taught so students receive clear instruction on how they can be successful. The link below highlights our various locations and expectations, along with embedded instructional videos that you can review with your children.

Today we celebrated International Dot Day, based on the book “The Dot” by Peter H. Reynolds! What begins with a small dot on a piece of paper, becomes a breakthrough in confidence, courage, creativity and sharing. The book has gone on to inspire countless children and adults around the globe, and the author Peter H. Reynolds grew up right here in Chelmsford, MA! We loved seeing all those polka dots around Byam School!

If you are considering volunteering at school, we require a CORI form on record. CORI forms can be filled out in the Byam office during school hours. Please make sure to bring your identification in-person when filling out the form.

The Chelmsford Public Schools utilizes student images on a variety of media. If you would like to opt your student out of any images please inform Mr. Fredette at fredettej@chelmsford.k12.ma.us. so that we can put them on the no photo list.

During our arrival and dismissal time we utilize the the driveway directly in front of the school for our buses. If you are parking in our 15 minute spots in this area during that time, please refrain from passing buses who have their blinking stop signs extended. That means they are loading or unloading buses with students. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Breakfast: For parents and guardians interested in their students having a breakfast at school, please sign up at the food nutrition link a week in advance.

We would like to remind our parents of new students, there is a charge when students get Milk Only. When students get a tray of food, the milk is included with the meal.

Lastly, we have a number of students coming to the kitchen line who have not asked for school lunch in the morning in their classes, and have brought their lunches to school from home. Please speak with your students to review with them the days you want them to request student lunch in the classroom, and days you want them to have their home lunch only. Thank you for your support! Overall, all students have been doing a fantastic job meeting and exceeding our lunch room 3R Ready-Responsible-Respectful expectations!
