English Language Arts
We've had a great week in ELA 8! Students read the text, "The Monkey's Paw" in class this week and we are working on a variety of activities with this text next week. Students should be completing a one-pager, a student-led discussion, and finally an assessment on Friday. Students will also be taking the KITE Interim test for ELA on Tuesday 10/29. We have completed our study on text features. The students will study prefixes and suffixes and learn how they change the meaning of words.

Core 8 Math
This week students worked diligently to master solving algebraic equations! Word problems were the biggest hurdle this week and we end the week with No Solution or Infinitely Many Solutions! The Study Guide/Review for Module 3 is available as of Friday with the Module 3 Test Planned for Tuesday 11-5-24.
It’s crazy to think there are approximately 30 days left in the 1st Semester!!!

We are now offering Academic Assistance on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s after school from 3-4 in the Library! Students that are interested in attending should use their Advisory Google Classroom to sign up!

Science
Science has closed Unit 2 Chemical reactions . All assignments attached to Unit 2 will be due Monday November 4th. I will not accept Unit 2 work after this date. If there are extenuating circumstances, please have your student reach out during an appropriate time and we will discuss. We are moving on to our 3rd Topic Forces and Motion. We may be outside a bit if the weather allows. Just a reminder, all daily agenda items are listed in Google Classroom in the Stream. Have a Great Week!

Topic four has officially come to an end! Students have now begun their new topic A New Republic. They have spent the week covering Washingtons presidency and will spend next week reviewing the two party system! Have a wonderful weekend!

Elective Class Updates
8/9 Drama
After a slight hiccup, the show has been cast. This week we had our first read through as a cast. Our light technician began marking light cues, and the tech team began creating a prop list. Next week we will begin blocking and character analysis.

8th Grade AVID students continued to learn about Procrastination and how it can have an impact on our mental health.

Spanish
8th Grade Spanish is working through Chapter 2B in Savvas. Our current SW video is Las Excusas withy nuggets 1-5 due on November 8th. After this, PAN 1-5 is due November 15th.
At Gallery has a display and activities for Day of the Dead from 10-4 on Sunday, November 3rd. It is free to get in. Food Trucks are scheduled to be outside and a fancier restaurant is inside of the museum.

Magic of Electrons
Students will learn engineers decide upon inputs, outputs, and the logic necessary for an electronic device and communicate them using electronic circuit diagrams and engineers must decide on the necessary constraints and trade-offs in control systems. Students will then determine the logic, sensors, gates, outputs, and other components needed to emulate existing electronic devices that utilize logic. Finally, students will design, construct, and test device solutions for emulating common electronic devices that utilize logic.

Students will read through each client request in the Client Summaries in Lesson 2.5 Helping Hand. They will then pick which Client Summary you will work on for this project. Students will use the 6 Steps in the Design Process to complete the 2.5 Helping Hand Project.

All is well in PE! Mr. Amon’s classes will be participating in a game called Tseg Ball. Mrs. Dreiling and Mr. Turner’s classes will be doing Speedball. Students in Sports Conditioning, will continue their weekly workout routine. Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have for your student!
*We will look to go outside as much as possible for PE (weather permitting). Please help us in reminding our students to bring water bottles and tennis shoes every day they have PE.*

Energy and the Environment
Students have designed, prototyped, and tested their oil spill cleanup apparatus. Ask them how it went! In our next unit of study, students will learn things they can do as consumers to reduce their energy dependency. Look for them to bring home a water usage audit to complete this week.

Students have new roles and are really getting settled. They will complete their choice board project by the 8th of November. Remember, you can watch the daily announcements on the Patton website!

Medical Detectives
Students have had a busy week with an attempt to diagnose a neurological condition. Some of the groups had a patient with a brain tumor. Students then had the experience of trying to remove the fake tumor from a sheep brain. Ask your son/daughter about the neurological condition for their patient! Have a super weekend!

Ceramic masks have come out of the kiln! 7th, 8th and 9th grade artists will glaze their masks next week. This week they finished working with linear perspective projects. 6th grade artists continue to work on their 3D Word Art designs.

Foods and Nutrition
Students are wrapping up their first Unit in F&N. Wednesday, September 18th will be the Unit 1: Safety Test. ALL students will be required to earn a minimum of an 80 on the Safety test before cooking in class. PLEASE encourage your student to study using the notes and slides supplied in class. **Reminder that all assignments from Unit 1 can be submitted up until test day to receive credit. All remaining assignments will remain a 0.
