Cardinal Connections
NOVEMBER 30, 2023
SIGNS OF SUPPORT
As the Clinton School District welcomed students and staff back to buildings this week, and prepares to finish the first half of the school year strong, we want to say THANK YOU to our community!
During the district's recent Week of Gratitude (November 13-17), you might have noticed marquees and storefronts showing some love to our Cardinal staff. These little acts of appreciation mean so much to our educators, and we are so very thankful to be a part of a community that supports and encourages our staff.
GREAT SCHOOLS HAVE GREAT COMMUNITY SUPPORT, AND GREAT COMMUNITIES HAVE GREAT SCHOOLS!

STUDENTS HONOR VETERANS
On Friday, November 10th, in honor of Veterans Day, students across the district took time to honor and thank veterans for their dedication and service to our country.
A student-led assembly was held at Clinton High School. JROTC students, the CHS band, and CHS choir did a phenomenal job of honoring those who made the noble decision to serve, defend and protect our country. The district was honored to have several veterans, as well as guest speaker, Col. Paul Howerton in attendance for the ceremony.
Students across the district also participated in activities and lessons that reminded them of the importance of thanking those who made the decision to serve our great nation.

NOTE-WORTHY ACHIEVEMENTS
Congratulations to the Clinton Middle School and Clinton High School band students who recently received some exciting news!
The following six CMS students were selected to perform in the West Central Junior High Honor Band; Bryce Fritchey, Jace Luttrell, Wyatt Scoles, Ethan Lutjen, Andrew Harp, and Matthew McCoy. They will travel to Sedalia on December 9th and perform with over 100 musicians in each band from around the district.
A big congratulations also goes to the outstanding Clinton High School Band students who auditioned and were selected to be a part of one of the West Central MMEA District ensembles; Sam Baughman -1st Alternate Jazz Drum Set, Allie Vandenberg - 9th Chair Clarinet Honorable Mention Band, Savannah Lee - 8th Chair Flute Honorable Mention Band, and Alex Markham - 1st Chair Horn Honorable Mention Band. There are 11 music districts in the state of Missouri and the West Central District consists of around 35 schools. Over 450 students auditioned for one of the bands and four students from Clinton made a spot! Because of Sam's ranking, he also gets the opportunity to audition for the State Jazz Band in December!
Great job to all of these students. Students are taught by Pat Miles and Katie Klinksick.

LEARNING FROM THE EXPERTS
Clinton Middle School students in Mrs. Vetsch's Communications classes have been learning about the different aspects of giving a speech; from body language to how we use our voice when communicating.
To provide real-world examples and experiences, two amazing guest speakers recently joined students to model how to use those skills when presenting in front of a group, as well as sharing how they use all types of communication in their careers and daily lives!
A huge shout out to Clay Radford from KDKD and The Bizz and Leon Vetsch, retired ULA Engineer, for sharing their stories with students and modeling how to give an amazing presentation!

GENEROSITY IN GEAR
Thanks to a very generous donation, students at Clinton Technical School have some great opportunities ahead of them!
Earlier this month, Jim and Becky Raysik donated a 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT to Brad Stone's Automotive Technology class.
Over the course of two years, students in the Automotive Technology class can earn multiple Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications, but the ASE Education Foundation requires that vehicles students are learning on be less than 10 years old. This week's donation meets this requirement and allows students to continue earning certifications, and in turn making themselves marketable to potential employers even before they graduate high school.
The district is very thankful for this donation and the many different ways that Jim and Becky have supported programs throughout the district over the years (Mrs. Raysik was a long-time chaperone for SkillsUSA events). Support such as this allows the district to continue providing students with great learning opportunities, while also providing them with the skills they need to succeed beyond high school.
If you or your business is interested in supporting the Automotive Technology class through the donation of a vehicle, please contact Brad Stone, bstone@clintoncardinals.org

SOARING TO NEW HEIGHTS AT CHS
On Wednesday, November 8th, several CHS students and staff took a trip of a lifetime in Blackhawk helicopters.
Two Blackhawk helicopters, courtesy of the Missouri National Guard, landed just north of the high school. After going through a safety briefing, JROTC cadets and several staff members had the chance to board the helicopters, fly over their high school, and then over Truman Lake.
Thank you to 1st Sgt. Tom Collison and Maj. Steve Carter for helping to make this event possible for students and staff!

GRATITUDE GATHERING
The district recently enjoyed welcoming close to 800 parents and special guests into their schools for "A Cardinal Thanksgiving".
It was an amazing event that called for all hands on deck. A special thank you to all of our families that were able to join us. A HUGE thank you to our amazing food service department who prepared and served all of the meals. Thank you to our staff who pitched in and helped wherever it was needed, as well as Clinton Middle School NJHS students and GVMH employees.

STUDENTS SHOWCASE THEIR WORK
Students in Mrs. Thompson’s advanced marketing class have spent the last six weeks creating marketing plans. Students researched a product, service or event of their choosing, and then developed a plan that was appropriate for the business.
Students are pictured at the link below during their “show and tell” day, where they displayed their presentations for CHS/CTS faculty as well as assistant superintendent, Dr. Meier. Students also answered questions regarding their ideas.

A FEAST FIT FOR A PRESCHOOLER
Clinton Early Childhood Center students in Ms. Dawna's and Ms. Nevada's class had fun learning all about the letter M and Thanksgiving.
Students Measured, Mixed, and Made a Thanksgiving feast, and then used their Manners during the meal. Students enjoyed all of the activities and all of the yummy food they made.
Their Thanksgiving menu consisted of:
- Sliced Turkey and Ham
- Cheese
- Mashed Yams with Marshmallows
- Stuffing
- Carrots
- Crescent Roll Cornucopias with Grapes
- Homemade Pumpkin Pie
- Homemade Whipped Topping
- Applesauce
Students also made their own thankful tablecloths by cutting out pictures from magazines of things they are thankful for. They made Indian corn by stringing beads on chenille pipe cleaners and counting 10 beads on each. They also made a Pilgrim hat to wear.

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY
Clinton High School recently inducted 30 students into the National Honor Society (NHS). This is in addition to the 22 students who are second year members of the organization (a list of member names can be found at the link below). This year's officers were also installed: Mikalah Scott (president), Mia Bagley (vice-president), Olivia Goehrig (secretary), and Belle Clifton (historian)
More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. Induction into the National Honor Society is a prestigious distinction awarded only to the most proficient students. Few students are nominated for induction, and even fewer are accepted. Nominated students' applications are meticulously reviewed and discussed amongst the Faculty Council.
Students must have obtained at least a 3.5 GPA, a clean slate from any discipline issues, and demonstrate all the principles that serve as the foundation of the organization. These young leaders are also giving back to their school and community by completing two group service projects and ten hours of individual service. For these reasons, induction into the National Honor Society is considered the greatest honor.
NHS sponsor is Shasta Hetherington.

CHANGES TO WEBSITE
The district is making plans to undergo a website redesign. In preparation for this, some changes have been made on our current website that we wanted to make you aware of.
In the past, the district had a separate website for each building. Previously, these sites were accessed at the top of the page as seen in image 1 below.
Currently, the only website that is available from this drop-down menu is the Clinton Technical School. The other 5 buildings' info can be found underneath the "Our Schools" tab in the red banner (as seen in image 2). Here you will find building-specific information for each school.
If you have any questions, or are unable to locate something that you have in the past, please email alawson@clintoncardinals.org
