Osprey Weekly
March 19, 2021
Dear LES Families,
The weekend is here! I hope you enjoy some much-deserved relaxation this weekend.
This week marked one year since the initial shutdown of schools due to COVID-19. We cannot neglect the challenges, obstacles, and hardships our community has faced this past year, but with students back has brought much hope. Our classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, and playground are filled with smiles and laughter once again. We are grateful for our students and staff who adhere to health and safety guidelines as they wear masks and remain socially distanced throughout the school day.
One of our greatest joys is seeing students engage with peers they have only seen on Google Meet due to virtual learning. We also want to thank families and students who are remaining virtual for their continued hard work and we hope to see you in-person as soon as your family decides (please see below for making a request to return to in-person learning).
LES PTA Dance Fit Fundraiser Update:
Thank you for every share and donation you all have contributed to our LES PTA fundraiser. This year is an important one for our school. We appreciate everyone’s support as we raise funds to Bring a STEM classroom to LES, meditation rooms and additional resources and programs to our students and teachers.
If you haven’t registered your student on funrun.com, it’s easy to do this weekend.
Then, consider sharing with extended family and friends. And if you are able to, consider making a donation as well.
Every share and donation adds up to make a big difference for our school.
If your family does get a donation this weekend, you’ll be part of the Weekend Challenge which is if any student gets $2 per lap or a total of $60 donated on funrun.com, they will receive a bonus prize.
Thank you for supporting our school.
Have a great weekend!

CHANGE TO IN-PERSON LEARNING
Families are asked if they would like to change their student from virtual to in-person learning for the fourth quarter of school, to please do so between March 12-26, 2021 so that proper arrangements can be made. Please be patient with any requests to move from virtual to in-person requests. Those requests are granted if there is enough space in the child's Homeroom class. We also have to look to see if we can accommodate students in the Cafeteria when we have whole groups for lunch. In some cases, we can make the change quickly. It will be important to communicate with the school if you would like for your child(ren) to return to in-person learning for Quarter 4 of school (April 12-June (DTBD).

LES Yearbook Cover Contest
The Yearbook Cover Contest is here! We are holding a contest for your artwork and the selected drawing will be featured as the cover of the Leonardtown Elementary 2020-2021 Yearbook. The judges will be looking for creativity, school spirit (Leonardtown Elementary Pride: Be safe - on task - accountable- responsible- respectful), integration of our hybrid and virtual learning, and authentic work. This is every student’s opportunity to use their creative and artistic skills while having fun. In addition to the cover winner, we will include as many designs on the back as possible. You could include in your artwork (school mascot, drawing of the school, playground, people learning (in-person or virtual), or any other representation of our school community).
