November 2024 News
Message from Principal Hakala
Greetings, Blue Jay families!
Things are just hopping here at Centennial. We appreciate our families' support so much – many thanks to all who came out for our Open House, encouraged students on during the Jog-A-Thon, donated trunks to the Trunk or Treat, volunteered at school or by chaperoning, and helped students get a good night's rest and get to school on time.
We are excited that students have found lots of ways to have fun and demonstrate their school spirit. We're also proud of them for learning the ground rules for respecting their teachers and fellow students.
As students continue to settle into their classroom routines, we encourage everyone to please listen to their teachers, focus on their learning, and follow the Blue Jay Way. The more students are able to demonstrate that they can meet our expectations, the more time we will have for fun activities.
This month's character trait is RESPONSIBILITY. Students can show they are responsible every day by following directions, putting effort into their work, and managing the supplies in their learning space. Students who are caught demonstrating responsibility can earn Blue Jay Bucks that they can use at the Student Store. Please chat with your students about what this means and encourage them to take responsibility at home and at school!
We will also continue to encourage all families to PLEASE try to get your students to school on time each day. They can show they are responsible by getting their backpacks ready for school before they go to bed, and helping you by getting dressed and out the door on time.
Remember, this year, we have no school all of Thanksgiving week. Of course we also have parent-teacher conferences scheduled for the days before Thanksgiving, so we hope to see all of our families whether it's in-person or virtual. We have a new process for scheduling this year, which we will be sharing out very soon.
Let's have a great November, everyone!

Parent-Teacher Conferences
The big change this year is that Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held this year during Thanksgiving Week. Otherwise, conferences will work very much the same way as in previous years.
- Day one, Nov. 26, will run from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. to allow as many families as possible time to visit their child's teachers.
- Day two, Nov. 27, will run from 8 a.m. to noon.
The other change is that families will be using ParentVue to schedule conferences. Stay tuned for more information about how to schedule in the coming days!
Lost & Found
With this fall's wacky weather, our lost & found is already teeming. Please encourage your kiddo to check the Lost & Found often for any missing items! Putting their name in the clothing helps. The best time for families to come and look is after school. Conference time will also be a perfect time to check out the book fair as well as look through the lost & found. You can also click the picture or the button to view a video slide show. Remaining items will be donated at the end of the trimester, which is the end of this month.
School Menus and the Mealviewer App
Please know that Ms Trish and Ms Victoria in the kitchen work hard to make healthy, tasty foods for our kiddos! Monthly menus are always available online for your viewing pleasure. To access on your phone, go to the Centennial website and tap on the "hamburger" menu in the upper right. Then tap on the plus sign next to Families and Community, and select Breakfast and Lunch Menus. You can also download the Mealviewer app. Our staff do their best to stick to the menus, but please understand that they sometimes they have to make a swap due to availability issues.
Riding the Bus
Students who live more than a mile away from school OR on the south side of Centennial are eligible to ride the bus. As of now, families may apply for a Temporary Rider Permit. This also allows students to be dropped at an alternate location such as a day care provider or family member AS LONG AS IT'S ON THE ROUTE. It also allows families who live near an existing bus stop to ride, as long as there is space on the bus. Please consider using the STOPFINDER app to be able to see your child's actual location as they ride. Please understand that like any technology, the bus pass and app are not foolproof. If you have any questions or have an emergency situation, please contact the Transportation Dept. directly at 541-744-6373.

Our Amazing PTO
How to support our school:
- You can always get blue bags from the school office. This is an easy way to support the PTO through donations of bottles and cans. Just bring the bag to the Springfield Bottle Drop Redemption Center, scan the PTO bar code, and toss your bag.
- Watch for upcoming fundraisers, and in the meantime, volunteer!
