Dear Horizon Leadership Academy Family,

As December welcomes us, we have so much to celebrate and anticipate at Horizon Academy. The move to our new building in the last week of November marks a new chapter in our journey, one filled with promise and excitement. Our state-of-the-art facilities are a testament to our commitment to providing the best learning environment for our students.

We're brimming with pride as we celebrate the exceptional achievements of our students in the Bebras Coding Competition. Our 9th grader, Sebnem Cizmeci, secured a top 10% score and earned the 'Best School' certificate for Horizon Leadership Academy. Furthermore, four of our students have made us proud by achieving scores in the top 15%, receiving Honor Roll accolades. A heartfelt thank you to these students for showcasing the strength of our computer science program. Your hard work and dedication are truly inspiring!

Our academic rigor continues to shine as we eagerly await the results of the MAP tests administered last week. These scores will be a valuable measure of our students' progress and will help tailor our educational strategies moving forward.

December is bustling with activities. The Scripps National Spelling Bee on the 6th promises to showcase the linguistic talents of our students. Following closely is our Science Fair on the 11th, where scientific inquiry and innovation take center stage.

As we approach the year's end, our students will be demonstrating their knowledge during finals from December 18th to 22nd. We encourage our students to prepare thoroughly, balance study with rest, and enter this period with confidence.

Lastly, the winter break from December 24th to January 8th offers a well-deserved respite for our students, staff, and families. It's a time for relaxation, reflection, and rejuvenation.

Our Horizon Leadership Academy community, embodying the true Blue Jay spirit, has soared to new heights with the Embrace Relief Foundation campaign to fund cataract surgeries in Africa. This philanthropic venture goes beyond mere fundraising; It's an invaluable learning experience that instills the essence of generosity in our students. Through their own donations, they're making tangible contributions to global welfare. So far, our campaign has triumphantly gathered $2,522, enabling life-changing surgeries and numerous health screenings. Exciting news for all word wizards and letter lovers at Horizon Academy – we're participating in the Scripps National Spelling Bee! Mark your calendars for Wednesday, December 6th, as our elementary students start at 2:35 p.m., and middle schoolers take the stage at 3:20 p.m. in the multipurpose room on the second floor. Students have been preparing with the School Spelling Bee Study List, and we encourage a final review to sharpen those skills. Let's buzz with excitement and cheer for our spellers as they demonstrate their prowess in this prestigious competition. Don't miss the spelling spectacle of the year!

Get ready to be wowed by scientific discovery! Horizon Academy is thrilled to invite you to our third annual Science Fair on Monday, December 11th. Our brilliant middle schoolers are set to showcase their incredible projects and experiments, celebrating the fascinating world of science. The HLA doors will be open from 1:30 to 4:30 PM for parents and community members to explore and be inspired.
