House Bill 4545: How It Might Impact Your Student
With the STAAR test approaching, it’s important that our families and students be aware of some changes to education law effective this school year that may impact their student(s).
Approved during the last legislative session, House Bill 4545 (HB 4545) requires campuses to
provide 30 hours of intervention to support academic and STAAR score improvement for all students who do not receive a passing score on the STAAR test this school year. (This includes students who do not take the test.)
Intervention will be provided through summer learning, after-school tutoring, or intervention during the school day. For secondary students, it’s important to note that intervention that takes place during the school day may result in the loss of an elective in order to accommodate the additional time needed for support.
Parents and guardians of students who are required to have intervention will be contacted by their campus after STAAR test scores are recieved to discuss their options.
Frequently Asked Questions regarding HB4545 can be reviewed on the TEA website.
From the Nurse for 6th Grade Parents
For the Incoming 7th-grade Students
Thank you to those who received your child's immunization notice and brought the updated immunization record to us. We have received only from a third of those who are missing required TDaP and MCV vaccines for the 7th grade. Please know that without the updated immunization record or exemption affidavit, your child will not be able to pick up his or her 7th-grade schedule on the Schedule Pickup Day in August. Please consider turning in the document before the summer to avoid the long line on the Schedule Pickup Day for your child's record to be read.
Here is the flyer for the free vaccine clinic for eligible students.
