River Mill Elementary - January 10th
Dear River Mill Families,
Happy New Year! We absolutely loved having our students back at school with us this week. They did an incredible job adjusting to our school routines and were ready and eager to get back to learning. Thank you for supporting their transition.
One area that would benefit from continued attention is consistent attendance and ensuring students arrive at school on time. This week, we noticed an increase in tardiness, which can create a stressful start to the day for students when they arrive after instruction has already begun. We understand how challenging it can be to re-establish routines after a long break, but arriving on time each day is essential for every student’s success. Thank you for your support in helping us create smooth and positive mornings for our students!
Thank you for your continued support,
Lindsey Fullenwider, Principal
Trevor Syring, Vice Principal

Student Behavior and Discipline
To foster a shared understanding of our school rules and how they are consistently enforced, we will be highlighting key aspects of our expectations, including how we try to first teach and support students in making positive behavior choices and how we approach discipline at River Mill. You can also find student behavior and discipline policies in our Parent/Student Handbook. If you have any questions or concerns about our school rules, student behavior, or discipline policies, please don’t hesitate to contact Lindsey Fullenwider or Trevor Syring. We value our partnership and collaboration with families and appreciate your support in creating a positive school environment!
Our Discipline Referral System
Our Discipline Referral System is designed to intervene and correct serious, inappropriate behavior patterns, build an immediate and consistent response to such behaviors, and provide a method of communicating behavior problems to parents in a timely manner.
There are two levels of documented inappropriate behaviors: minor referrals and major referrals. Minor referrals are dealt with at the classroom level and reported to the office. Major referrals are reported to the office and dealt with by an administrator. Prior to issuing a Discipline Referral to the principal or vice principal, the teacher is expected to follow procedures outlined in Positive Behavior Support and Intervention (PBIS) Protocols. Any serious infraction listed below, may be immediately referred to an administrator:
Possession/use of Weapons (including fake and look-alike weapons)
Possession/use of Drugs (including alcohol or tobacco)
Fighting or Assault
Harassment, Bullying, Physical Aggression, or Threat
Verbal Abuse, Swearing, or Inappropriate Communication or Affection
Theft or Forgery
Property Damage or Vandalism
Extreme Disrespect, Defiance, or Disruption or Inappropriate Location
Discipline referrals may result in a conference to discuss the incident, determine an appropriate consequence, and parent/guardian contact.
Again, if you ever have any questions our concerns regarding student behaviors and or our discipline policies, please do not hesitate to contact us!
Attendance Matters
Did you know that many of our youngest students miss about 10% of the school year—around 14 days, or just two days a month? This level of chronic absenteeism in elementary school can predict lower test scores and challenges with retention in later grades. Every day and every minute of school matters, contributing to your child's growth and success! Please help us support your child's learning by ensuring they attend school every day and arrive on time. Thank you for partnering with us to build strong habits for lifelong learning!
