Ordean East Middle School News

This morning we had our first all school assembly!

Here are some of the fun things we got to do:

• Finals of our Rock, Paper, Scissors Tournament with Krafthefer, DeMeyer, and Plote coming out as champions
• Flipper Relay Race with our 8th grade team coming out on top
• Human Hungry Hungry Hippos got dominated by our staff team
• The Student Council Appreciation committee awarded Dean of Students, Mr. Borak with an enormous BARK buck for his contribution in keeping our school following the BARK principles,
• Awesome tunes from the Advanced Band under the direction of Mr. Lehigh and Ms. Thums.
• Holiday BARK Float Parade from Mr. Chederquist's 7th grade Industrial Tech classes
• Roving Drone Show from Mr. Steinsberger's Coding and Robotics classes

We wrapped it up with a 50/50 Pie-ing Contest where both students AND staff took a pie to the face. It was a great morning of community building and reminded us all of how much we love our school!

The 2024-25 District Spelling Bee results are in!

Following some intense spelling and competition, 3 students from both the 5th and 6th grade District Spelling Bee as well as the 7th and 8th grade District Spelling Bee will continue to the Regional Spelling Bee in Mountain Iron on Tuesday, February 11th and represent Duluth Public Schools.

Student Council is hosting a Toy Drive from December 9-20.

Those who are willing and able, please grab a snowflake from the main office! The OEMS Toy Drive will take place December 9-20. Each snowflake will signify a different item and price range. Please read the snowflake carefully before you select it. White snowflakes range from $10-$20, Light Blue ranges from $20-$30, and Dark Blue ranges $30+. Each snowflake will have a paper attached to it with specific directions on how to present and return the snowflake + present once it's purchased. The OEMS PTA and OEMS PBIS Team send big thanks to the four volunteers who covered all three lunch period’s BARK Auctions last week and the auction item donors! 🙌 The students had a great time deciding how many of their hard earned BARK Bucks to bid on cool prizes with and the volunteers enjoyed supporting the school during this fun glimpse into the students’ day! Stay tuned for more opportunities to help at the school coming soon!

7th grade parents and supporters are invited to help organize the 7th Grade Winter Fest. Help our planning chair and student council plan a fun night for our 7th grade students. Time commitment is a few planning meetings (probably virtual) and possibly running some errands prior to helping the night of the event on 2/7. Holiday Break

Snow Club registration is now open for all middle school students! Snow Club is an after school ski and snowboard program open to skiers and snowboarders of all skill levels at Spirit Mountain.

Snow Club will run TWO sessions this winter. Each session is 3 weeks long and will take place on Thursday afternoon/evening. Please note: There is no Snow Club the week of winter break.

Session 1: January 16th, 23rd, and 30th

Session 2: February 13th, 27th, and March 6th

Time: Leave Ordean at 3:30 and return to Ordean at 7:30

Cost: $95

Helmets are required and can be rented for $10 each session.

Space is limited to the first 50 students. A waitlist will be created if needed.

OEMS Swim Team is Starting Soon!

• The Ordean East Swim Team is open to all 6th, 7th, and 8th graders.
• Practice starts in January and is on Mondays and Thursdays after school. The season ends in early March.
• This year, due to special circumstances, there is no participation fee for anyone.
• There is lots of information about the upcoming season, which starts in January, on the Swim Team Website.

History Day Club will be meeting after school Thursdays in Mrs. Vang's Room, 3133.
