FALL 2024
FROM THE DESK OF THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR...
Ann Trytko, CAA
Greetings Friends!
It’s my pleasure to welcome you to the 2024-25 school year. Your MSSADA is led this year by President Jim Quatromoni, Athletic Director at Hingham High School. Jim is supported by fellow officers, 1st Vice President Kelly Wolff, 2nd Vice President Jennifer Gouvin, 3rd Vice President Brad Bustin, Past President Tom Tarpey, along with Secretary Tania Rich, and Treasurer Keith Mangan.
This is sure to be an exciting year as we will be celebrating the 50th Anniversary of our MSSADA conference. Your colleagues on the MSSADA Board have been hard at work planning for this very special event to be held in March and I hope that you will be able to join us!
Prior to that, you will all be hard at work with the day-to-day responsibilities within your own schools and districts. We all know the passion and commitment it takes to be an Athletic Administrator but the job cannot be accomplished alone. Having supportive Administrators and colleagues is a necessity. Never hesitate to reach out and communicate with those who “wear the same shoes”. Whether new to this position or a veteran AD, we can all learn from each other.
We have representatives on our board from each of the 9 MIAA districts. Their responsibility is to keep you in the loop with Association news, whether it be information about the National and State conferences, the Mentoring program or of the many LTC courses offered during the year. All of these things can benefit you in your position and I encourage you to take advantage of them. In addition, please take a moment to check out the MSSADA website (www.mssada.org) which offers a lot of interesting and important information.
In closing, I wish you the best as you start this year and hope to see you at our 50th Anniversary celebration in Cape Cod in March!
Proud to serve as your MSSADA Executive Director,
Ann B. Trytko, CAA
MSSADA Executive Director
FROM THE DESK OF THE PRESIDENT...
Jim Quatromoni, CAA
Hingham High School
Dear Colleagues,
The 2024-2025 school year is upon us. With work-life balance in mind, I hope that each of you had the opportunity to recharge with friends and family during the summer. I am humbled to be serving as your President this year. I take the leadership reins from Tom Tarpey. He will move into his new role as Past President on the Executive Board. Tom’s leadership in collaboration with Executive Director Ann Trytko was instrumental in what was a tremendous 2023-2024 school year. We are fortunate to have them both as part of our leadership team.
I would like to offer a welcome to new athletic directors just getting started in the world of athletic administration. The role you will play in guiding student-athletes and coaches through participation in interscholastic athletics will be tremendously rewarding. It is also exceedingly impactful. We are helping to develop good citizens. Consider Joe Ehrmann’s response when asked about his WHY, “I coach to help boys (and girls) become men (and women) of empathy and integrity who will lead, be responsible, and change the world for good.”
This year, let’s be reminded of the importance of the support of a network. People in your network can be in your league, district or on the other side of the commonwealth. The only people that truly understand our jobs are our colleagues. Never hesitate to reach out to ask a question or seek confirmation. Just as importantly, let us be mindful to check in with each other to help us navigate this school year knowing that we are all in this together. We can all get competitive. That is probably a significant reason we have landed in these positions. We can compete at the highest levels yet still model for our student athletes that it is important to be a good person, and a person that is good to other people.
Please consider involvement in two categories of opportunities that help athletic directors, at any level of experience, improve their ability to do their jobs. The first is involvement in MIAA committee work. Check in with your District Athletic Committee for openings on these committees. The second, is professional development opportunities. Whether it be our annual conference, district workshops, LTC courses or even your league meeting, getting out of your building and interacting with colleagues will help you become a more effective athletic administrator.
This school year marks the 50th anniversary of our MSSADA Conference, magnifying the honor that serving as your President provides me. Please join our Board in celebrating this milestone throughout the year. Our Board is here to serve you. Please reach out to any of us at your convenience. I am looking forward to a tremendous year.
Sincerely,
Jim Quatromoni, CAA
MSSADA President
