Mrs. Geurin’s Classes

Math

Eighth grade will continue working on linear equations and inequalities in one variable. They will write and solve inequalities and compound inequalities. They will then move into Unit 2 Module 3 on linear equations in two variables. They will work on linear equations in standard form and slopes of lines and rates of change. As they move into Module 4, they will learn about linear functions and models.

Science

Eighth grade is concluding their topic on energy flow in ecosystems and then moving into their new topic on Cycles of Matter. They will then review their ecosystem's topic of ecology. They will then begin their new topic of Populations, Communities, and Ecosystems. They will work to understand interactions in ecosystems, dynamic and resilient ecosystems, biodiversity, and ecosystem services.

Mrs. Bradley’s Classes

Language Arts

Students will analyze the author's craft across several genres. Our essential question will be: Why do we sometimes like to feel frightened? We will get to read pieces of literature from some of the great classic writers such as Edgar Allan Poe, and W.W Jacobs. These works will help us practice analyzing how word choice impacts the mood and tone of a piece, and how particular lines of dialogue propel the action in a story.

Social Studies

We will be looking at the road to disunion in America and lead into the Civil War. We will compare and contrast the characteristics of the Union and Confederate armies. We will also describe the outbreak, major battles, turning points (Emancipation Proclamation/Gettysburg Address), and conclusion of the Civil War.
