JOHNSON FAMILY NEWSLETTER
SEPTEMBER 2024
PRINCIPAL CORNER
Dear Johnson Families,
It has been an honor to spend a month with your children this year! As I walk down the halls and into classrooms, I am filled with inspiration that soon we will get our students into strong routines and procedures! I am still in awe of the care and passion our teachers and staff have put into making our school a welcoming place for our students.
We are hard at work to make Johnson Primary a place where children love to be part of. We take pride in working on Academic Learning and Safety of our students.
August has been full of excitement:
We kicked off the year with our annual Parent Kinder letters that are up in our library. Thank you for the beautiful words you all wrote to your children.
We had our first fire drill and Secured the building when it was necessary. All staff and students did a wonderful job in staying safe. We will continue to practice our drills for the safety of all our staff and students.
We had our Pre-school Parents attend orientation and our preschoolers eager to start school!
We had our first PTO meeting with PTO new officers. Thank you for volunteering!
We had our Code of Conduct and PBIS Kick OFF where our students learned about Johnson’s 3Bs: Be Respectful, Be Responsible and Be Safe!
We had an excellent turn out for Open House and got to meet you for the first time during our Title 1 and Code of Conduct Presentation.
We ended August by celebrating Perfect Attendance, Birthdays and Students of the Month!
We are looking forward to seeing so many parents come to Parent/Teacher conferences and learn about your child’s progress!
Our students continue to do their part and are becoming owners of their own learning! I am excited to announce that our first month of school was very productive and full of wonderful beginnings!
Thank you for being our Educational Partners.

STUDENTS OF THE MONTH FOR AUGUST
Students are recognized monthly for their TRIPLE “A”-Great ATTENDANCE, Super ATTITUDE, and Strong ACADEMICS!
AUGUST PERFECT ATTENDANCE
Congratulations to the students who had perfect attendance in August! They played a game with the principal, earned a Perfect Attendance pencil or award tag and a Peter Piper personal pan pizza coupon. Hope to see your child at the Perfect Attendance party at the end of the month.
STUDENT COUNCIL
Student Council: In August, all third-grade classes elected their student council representatives for the 24-25 school year. Students wrote speeches and read them to their classes in order to run. Representatives were voted on. Each class has a male and female student representative. Mrs. Cota also picked one student from each third-grade class. We had our first meeting on Thursday, August 28th, 2024. During the meeting, student council members organized their thoughts using a circle map to identify what is a leader. We also discussed the Leadership Contract detailing their role as a student council representative and the roles and responsibilities of officers. Each student council member will receive their own leadership notebook, pen, and student council bracelet.
Junior Student Council: This year we will be having Junior Student Council from second grade. Two students were selected from both second-grade classes (a male and female). These students will learn what it takes to be in student council, help with projects, and be part of daily announcements once a week. Our meetings will begin the first week of September. Junior Student Council members will discuss what a good leader looks like and go through their Leadership Contract. Each student will receive a leadership notebook, pen, and bracelet. Being in Junior Student Council will not guarantee a spot in Student Council for third grade.
JOHNSON LIBRARY
Hello Johnson Families,
Please ensure that your student is taking good care of their Practice Library Book and bringing it to school each week. These papers need to be returned every week for 4 weeks before students are allowed to take books home from school.
If you happen to find a library book from last school year or a computer from years past, feel free to drop it off at the library or the front office. I will be sending home notices with students about which books they still have missing. We prefer to have the original book returned, however if you can't find it, a replacement copy of the same book in new condition is acceptable. If you wish to pay your student's fine, rather than bring in a replacement book, you can do so on ParentVUE.
Check out our local Southwest Library for after-school programs such as homework help, free snacks and much more! Get your Pima County Public Library Card online or in person at any of their many locations. https://www.library.pima.gov/
Happy reading,
Ms. Smith
