Principals' Message
Stevenson Families,
The Fun Run will be so much fun for our students! We are grateful for all of the money raised to support our school. Money raised will bring new resources to students and support field trips for all of our scholars.
October was full of engaging learning activities. Check out all the amazing photos below.
Kindergarten has been exploring with ramps this week in the STEAM Lab! The sets were checked out from the Science Museum. Our littles have been experimenting and measuring.
Our 1st graders had Pumpkin Day! Our young scholars made predictions, counted pumpkin seeds, played pumpkin trick word bingo, were immersed in pumpkin stories, practiced skip counting and so much more!
Our 2nd Graders have been learning about seed dispersal and animal classifications with Springbrook naturalists. They have also been practicing their civic responsibility by voting! Our 2nd grade citizens voted for their next field trip.
Our 3rd graders went to the Bell Museum where they learned about the Minnesota night skies in the Planetarium, explored natural history collections, observed giant dioramas, and even held cockroaches!
Our 4th graders have been learning about water erosion both at school and on their recent Springbrook field trip. Through our partnership with the science museum, we checked out erosion tables for our students to experiment and make observations.
Kindly,
Veronica Mathison

School Referendum
Dear Families,
Thank you for a great beginning of the 2024-25 school year! I’ve appreciated the opportunity to meet many of you and your students. Our dedicated team appreciates partnering with you to ensure your student’s success in and out of the classroom.
As we move into the fall, I wanted to ensure I provided some additional information regarding an upcoming referendum for our school district. As you may have heard this summer, the Fridley School Board approved a resolution calling for an election on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. On that date, community members will vote on two measures: an operating levy and a facility bond.
Operating Levy
Question #1 is a new operating levy that would enable the district to maintain stable funding and invest in programs and services for students. It would begin in 2025-26 and add approximately $1.165 million in new revenue, expiring at the end of the 2035-36 fiscal year.
This revenue would help stabilize the district’s finances and reduce the projected budget gap. It would also limit future budget reductions over the next several years. An approved operating levy would have an estimated impact of $163 per year (or $14 per month) on a home with an estimated market value of $313,780, the average home value in Fridley.
Fridley school district residents can calculate their property tax impact using the tax calculator linked here.
Facility Bond
Question #2 is a $30 million facility bond referendum that would enable the district to move forward with a series of projects to address our most pressing facility and building needs. The projects would include:
Renovations and improvements at all facilities
Deferred maintenance improvements
Safe and secure building renovations
Please click here to see a full breakdown of the project budget and costs.
If the bond is approved, the revenue currently taken from the general fund to cover facility renovations and repairs will be reduced by about $1 million per year. This will also help stabilize the district’s overall budget.
An approved bond referendum would have no tax impact on district residents due to other district bond levies ending. Additional information on this financial strategy is available on the facility bond page of our referendum website.

As always, thank you for your support of the Fridley Public Schools and the students we serve!
Sincerely,
Brenda Lewis, Ph.D.
Superintendent
Thanksgiving Meal Boxes
We will have Thanksgiving Meal Boxes available for families the week of November 25th that have been donated by Emmanuel Christian Center. There are typical Thanksgiving based items with an additional gift card to purchase your own meat.
Due to limited availability, families will be selected based on when they complete the form below.
Parking lot reminder
The front parking lot is closed to parents from 8:30-9:10 and 3:30-4:00. Only buses, district vehicles, and vehicles with parking lot passes should be entering during that time. Buses need room to make wide turns and swing into their parking spots. In order for everyone to remain safe, we need to minimize the amount of traffic that is both entering and exiting the front lot at those times.
If you need to come into the building between 8:30-9:10, or from 3:30-4:00, please park on the North side of the building near the gym or at the Fridley Station Park & Ride across the street.

Thank you to PTO and those who contributed to the nacho bar and root beer floats for Stevenson staff. What a delicious lunch!
PTO
Hello families,
What a great October! PTO had a quick meeting this month but we were able to do a lot! The major highlights were setting up the final dates for the Butter Braid fundraiser, and filling in the last few slots for the Staff appreciation nacho bar and root beer float potluck.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to that, you made it a success. I’ve heard back from the staff and they really enjoyed it.
In October, we were also able to continue the tradition of working with Warm Hands Green Hearts and get a pair of handmade mittens for every 3rd grader in school!
Please join us at the next PTO meeting November 13th at 5 PM

Strengthen Our Community by Volunteering!
There are always opportunities at Stevenson with field trips, classroom teacher projects, Parent Teacher Organization, and school events to help our school.
All Volunteers must fill out the volunteer application and clear a background check through human resources. All information is confidential and at no cost to our volunteers.
We highly suggest adults complete the volunteer process at the beginning of the year to be ready at a moments notice for any event!
