Your Weekly BGS PTO News & Happenings
Did you know there were Pirates at BGS this week? Bright Star Touring Theatre joined us on Tuesday to present the Pirate of Bully Bay. "This sea-faring adventure teaches young buccaneers how to navigate the sometimes choppy waters of friendship by learning how to recognize, report and stand up to bullying." You can check out a small sampling of the program our Bears saw in this YouTube clip. This event is just one of the curriculum enrichments that your fundraising efforts support.
In case you missed Monday night's State of the District forum, you can watch a video replay, provided by the Van Holten PTO. Our Superintendent, Mr. Lasovick, shared progress and updates on our district's 5 year strategic plan.
This week also brought the start of our School Read-a-Thon. We're skipping product sales and coupon books in order to focus on bolstering a love of reading and support for school community. Now through Nov. 10, our students are focused on reading 100,000 minutes and raising $7,500. You can watch this video clip to learn more about how students can use the Whooo's Reading platform to log their reading, earn coins for their "Owlvatars" and collect pledges from friends and family (after their parents approve them).
Happy Reading!

LAST CALL FOR SPIRIT KITS!
If you do prefer paper, checks can be made out to BGS PTO and your order form below can returned in an envelope marked "PTO Membership/Spirit Wear".
The Directory's Going Digital
One of the "perks" of your PTO membership is inclusion in and access to our BGS Student Directory. In keeping with other schools in the district, we're going digital this year.
Those who have already registered for PTO membership received an email Wednesday inviting them to complete their directory registration. Be sure to check your email spam and promotions folder, so you don't miss the link. It would have come from "BGS PTO" via our Signup Genius (even if you sent in a paper form). When you update your info for the directory, include ONLY what information you wish to share. Once you've completed it, you'll immediately have access to a live online version of the directory.
Don't miss out - become a PTO member today! Link for membership is directly above.
Give Us Your Gently Used Clothes & We'll Enrich the BGS Experience!
The $1, 2, 3 & Clothing Sale is a long-standing BGS tradition that helps you clean your closets, helps those in need, and helps the school by raising funds that contribute to events such as this week's Anti-Bullying Assembly and our Teacher Mini-Grant Program.
Drop off your gently used clothes, shoes, coats, & costumes, sorted & labeled by size. Drop off hours are Thurs., Oct. 18 from 4 - 7 PM and Fri., Oct. 19 from 9 AM - 2 PM & 4 - 7 PM. Tax receipts will be available.
Help us set up for the sale by sorting, folding and organizing the donations throughout the day on Friday, Oct. 19 (9 AM - 2 PM or 4 - 8 PM). Assistance is also needed to help organize during the sale on Saturday, Oct. 20. Come for an hour or come all day - we'd love to have you! Let us know you can help by signing up for a shift here!
Want to help, but can't make it to the sale? Help us advertise by sharing our Facebook event page or printing our sale flyer and posting it around town.
Spooktacular Fun at the Halloween Hoot
Join us for trunk or treating and ghoulish fun at our Halloween Hoot on Friday, Oct. 26 at from 7-8:30 PM. Admission is $5 per child / maximum of $15 per family. Children of volunteers attend for FREE!
We'd like to know you're coming - just give us a quick headcount by signing up here.
If trunk or treating and fun & games aren't enough, prep a pumpkin for our Pumpkin Decorating Contest. Bring a decorated pumpkin to the event and participants will vote with their change - winners are those with the most change in their UNICEF boxes by the end of the Hoot.
The Hoot is great fun, but needs your help to run! Our Hoot Sign Up Genius has been updated with some new opportunities to help us make this event success, including donations of candy for our trunk or treat cars. If you can sponsor a trunk, donate some snacks or candy, help us set up, or even just assist at the snack table, let us know by signing up here.
Remember - children of volunteers attend for free!
In Case You Missed It....
