Mrs. Turner's January Newsletter
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year! I hope each of you had a rejuvenating and joyful Christmas break spent with loved ones. As we bid farewell to 2024 and welcome the promising year ahead, we are excited to welcome back our students and staff January 7th, 2025.
As we dive back into our school routines, I understand that transitioning from the comfort of the holidays to our academic setting can be quite challenging for both students, staff and parents alike.
Returning to the structure and routine of school after a break, especially one as delightful as the Christmas break vacation, can be a bit demanding. However, it's crucial that we re-establish our momentum and dive back into our learning journey.
As we resume our academic pursuits, I encourage our students to embrace this opportunity for a fresh start. Reconnecting with friends, engaging in classroom discussions, and diving into our curriculum with renewed enthusiasm are essential elements of our return.
Additionally, I would like to highlight the importance of staying ahead of our schoolwork, especially considering the potential for winter weather and snow days in the upcoming months. It's prudent for students to stay proactive and on top of their assignments, ensuring that they are well-prepared for spring testing and the next grade level.
Thank you for your continued cooperation and understanding. Here's to a successful continuation of our academic year ahead. Should you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. Let's make this return to school after the break a smooth and successful transition for all.
Good Dads, Strong Schools Coming Soon
I'm excited to announce that Forsyth Elementary will be hosting their first, Good Dads, Strong Schools kickoff meeting the morning of January 24th. Research states that father involvement is imperative to a child's education. Good Dads, Strong Schools was designed to not only strengthen parent involvement in education, but also to take into account barriers that families, schools and communities may face.
Strong Schools are father-focused events that are fun and interactive. More information coming soon!

NWEA Testing
Children learn better—and faster—when teachers have a clear picture of what students know and how they are growing academically.
How it Works:
MAP Growth is a computer-adaptive test. If your child answers a question correctly, the next question is more challenging. If they answer incorrectly, the next one is easier. This type of assessment challenges top performers without overwhelming students whose skills are below grade level.
What it Measures:
MAP Growth uses a RIT scale to accurately measure what students know, regardless of their grade level. It also measures growth over time, allowing you to track your child’s progress throughout the school year and across multiple years. Once your child completes a MAP Growth test, they receive a RIT score. The RIT scale precisely measures student performance, regardless of whether they’re performing on, above, or below grade level.
Your child's NWEA report will be sent home this month. Please look over the report and celebrate your child's growth and success. If you have any questions regarding the report, please contact your child's teacher or myself.

AMI Packet & Snow Days
It is that time of year where we could have inclement weather. You will receive a phone call from the school if we are not in session and it will also be listed on KY3 under school closings. You should have received an AMI packet from your child's teacher at parent teacher conferences. Please locate your packet in the event that we miss school due to inclement weather. The work must be completed to count your child's attendance. Please contact your child's teacher if you have any further questions.
