A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear PES community,
Happy spring! Warmer temperatures and sunshine certainly had us all feeling upbeat and happy. Students have enjoyed playing outside at recess time. Now is a good time to bring out the spring jackets, as sweatshirts and winter coats have felt too warm for students on some of our days.
Classroom celebrations! 🎉
Fifth graders invited guests and classrooms to visit their live historical figures from the American Revolution museum. Guests were greeted with a clipboard and series of questions to ask during the event. As visitors circled around the gymnasium, they were greeted by different historical figures that recapped their lives for guests. This nonfiction reading and writing unit provides students with a memorable experience of live learning. Well done, Mrs.Snell and 5th graders.
SEL Game! 😀
Students are learning a new game connected to being an emotion detective and practicing empathy. In pairs, students take turns communicating an emotion through body language, once their partner determines what the emotion is, they ask them a series of questions, or statements, to show empathy: ex. Why are you feeling sad? What can I do to help? I understand, I have felt that way before. You can help your student/s become emotion detectives by playing this fun game at home. Empathy requires a lot of practice, especially when students are young.
Reminders! 🙌
Report cards are coming home today. Please make sure you check your student’s Thursday folder. If you could send back their report card envelope/s in, and as well as, the Thursday folder, we would really appreciate it. It helps us save time and school resources.
Don’t forget about the PTA dance happening tomorrow night at PES. This is a great opportunity to get out and have some fun with other families in Phippsburg.
We are still collecting slips for Bike for Books. A reminder that this fun reading event will be wrapping up at the beginning of April, so make sure to submit your reading slips while you can.
Thank you for all you do for the PES community! We are so grateful for you all.
Warm regards,
Nina Willette, Principal
RSU1 SCHOOL BOARD MEETING AND BUDGET PUBLIC FORUM
The RSU1 welcomes community participation and invites you to attend the monthly School Board meetings. The next one is Monday, March 24th, at 6PM at Morse High School. This will also include the FY26 budget public forum.
FEED THE TEACHERS!
Feed the teachers! Calling all parents and community members! As we gear up for parent-teacher conferences, we’d love your help in providing meals for our amazing teachers on March 27th.
FRIENDSHIP CLUB AT PES!
PES is starting a Friendship Club, meeting once a month during lunch. If you are interested in having your student/s participate, please contact Mrs. Willette at nwillette@rsu1.org.
CALL THE NURSE
If your student experiences a significant injury or illness, please notify Nurse Brandi at 389-1514 or btainter@rsu1.org. She will make sure we have the medical documentation necessary for your student to return to school. If your student has specific activity restrictions or needs accommodations, she will communicate that with all of the appropriate teachers and staff members for you.
BACKPACK PROGRAM
The PES Backpack program is always accepting new families. If you would like a free bag of snacks and fresh produce sent home on Thursdays, please reach out to Mrs. McCartney at tmccartney@rsu1.org. It costs nothing to enroll, and you can opt out at anytime, as needed. This confidential program is meant to provide some food over the weekends, and can be utilized by any PES Family!
School Choice Application
Parents choosing to send their children to a non-community school must complete this application for the 2025- 2026 school year and return it to the Superintendent’s Office, 34 Wing Farm Parkway, Bath, ME 04530. The deadline for applications is May 1st; decisions will be made in June. Decisions will be made on a first come, first served basis, pending availability of grade level slots. A separate application must be completed for each child.
1. An application is necessary for all students wishing to attend a school in RSU 1 other than the school in your town of residence.
2. Once a student is accepted at a school, the student must remain enrolled for the school year.
3. Continued placement is affirmed for subsequent years unless parents submit a new application.
4. School choice transportation is the responsibility of the parent/guardian.
