Hello Dorr Families,
Halloween is on the minds of many here at Dorr Elementary! Students are eagerly sharing their costume ideas with friends and are anticipating all the fun activities planned for the day!
All elementary schools at WUS will recognize Halloween on Thursday October 31st. Teachers will communicate their specific class plans in their newsletters. With a focus on safety, here is a brief outline of the day.
Halloween Activities will take place throughout the day on Thursday October 31, 2024. No activities will happen after the parade.
Parade on the playground around the track: 2:15pm All families are welcome to join us on the playground to watch and may take their child home immediately after the parade. Further direction on this process will be released next week. Parents will be notified by 12:00pm through IC if the parade is canceled due to weather.
Volunteers for classroom activities will be based on individual teacher needs. This will be prearranged by the teacher. If you are chosen to volunteer you MUST have a current ICHAT background check on file. If you do not, please fill out the ICHAT request form located under parent quick links on our website, www.waylandunion.org,
Parents should not come to “dress” their child for the parade. Please keep costumes simple. No weapons or gore as well.
We appreciate your cooperation on Halloween in making this a fun, safe day for our students and staff.
Enjoy the weekend!
Best Regards,
Mrs. Seniura
Visitor/Volunteer Policy
Dorr Elementary loves to welcome visitors and volunteers throughout the year. Any person who enters the building to visit or volunteer is required to have an approved background check on file with the office each year. ICHAT request forms can be found on waylandunion.org under parent quick links. Or, simply click the button below! Please note: If you have students across multiple buildings, please only fill out the form ONCE.
My Child Is Sick. What Do I Do?
The cold and flu season is approaching. Dorr Elementary is already seeing an influx of sickness in the classrooms. Please help us stop the spread of these nasty viruses by following these guidelines.
- If you need to call your student in ill, it is helpful if you give a brief list of symptoms, rather than "my student is sick". Reporting symptoms helps us identify possible outbreaks.
- Please keep your student home if they have a fever. Students are welcome to return to school once they are fever free without medication for 24 hours.
- Please keep your student home if they are vomiting or have diarrhea. Students are welcome to return once they are vomit/ diarrhea free without the use of medication for 24 hours.
Attendance Questions Explained
Students are expected to be in their seats, ready to learn by 8:50am each day. Students who arrive AFTER 8:50am but BEFORE 9:05am will be marked as AM TARDY. Students who arrive AFTER 9:05am will be marked as 1/2 day AM ABSENT.
Students are expected to complete the school day at 3:50pm. Students who need to be picked up between 3:30pm and 3:49pm will be marked as PM TARDY. Students leaving BEFORE 3:30pm will be marked as 1/2 day PM ABSENT.
If your student is ill, please contact the office to report their absence. It is helpful if you report the students symptoms as it helps us identify break outs of illnesses across classrooms and grades.
Students who are absent will be coded as follows:
Unexcused absence: Students who are absent for illness or other reason, and parent has notified the office will be marked as unexcused absence. The reason for absence will be noted.
Unknown absence: Students who are absent and the office has received no communication from parent/guardian will be marked as unknown absence.
Excused absence: Students who are absent and return with a doctors note that includes the dates/times the student is to be excused, will be marked as excused absence.
Students who obtain 5 & 7 unexcused or unknown absences during the school year will receive a letter from the school bringing the absences to your attention.
Students who obtain 10 unexcused and/or unknown absences during the year will be asked to meet with the principal and may be subject to truancy. Wayland Union Schools district policy outlining attendance can be found in the student handbook.
Y5's-5th Grade Student Handbook
The Student Handbook has been updated for the 2024-2025 school year. Please take a look at our Student Handbook to familiarize yourself with our policies, procedures, and expectations. For your convenience, we have included a link directly to the handbook. This information can also be found on our website, waylandunion.org under student links.
