PRINCIPAL CORNER
Dear OSES Families,
Participating in school events is crucial for students as it fosters a sense of community and belonging. These activities provide opportunities to develop essential skills such as teamwork, empathy, and communication, which are invaluable both in and out of the classroom. Engaging in events like Red Ribbon Day, Pink Day, International Festival, and our Boosthon event promote school culture and community. Moreover, these experiences can showcase student well-roundedness and commitment to personal growth. Ultimately, school events create a vibrant atmosphere that enriches the educational experience, making learning more enjoyable and memorable. We everyone is enjoying these few weeks.

THIS WEEK IN GRADES K-6
KINDERGARTEN
All Kindergarten
This Monday Kindergarten celebrated the "50th day of school" by dressing up and learning about that decade!
Also reminder to sign up, or donate to Boosterthon. The kids were very excited getting to meet the group from Boosterthon this week!
FIRST
Vancol
First grade is working hard on developing writing skills through learning how to identify and correct fragment sentences, generating specific WH questions when looking at pictures, and remembering capitalization and punctuation rules. With Fall in full swing, we are also investigating pumpkins this month. Ms. Nickerson’s class was the first to get their hands dirty (or slimy!) this week by feeling and counting seeds in pumpkins. Other classes will follow suit in the next few weeks! All classes are learning Module 3 for Language Arts, finishing Unit 1 for Social Studies, and finishing Topic 3 and starting Topic 4 for Math. In Science, classes are exploring the concepts of force and motion through moving Hot Wheels cars, using marbles for painting, and playing games such as motion charades! Don’t forget the following important dates:
Monday, 10/28: Pumpkin Book Projects Due
Wednesday, 10/30: Grade level STEAM Rotation Day & Wear Red Day
Thursday, 10/31: *Per administrative policy, no dressing up in costumes or as book characters this year*
Friday, 11/1: Field Trip Forms and Payment Due for Gatorland Fieldtrip
SECOND
Wesemann
Ms. Wesemann’s class was busy comparing objects to find their mass and comparing multiplication and addition to solve real-world problems. We are working on identifying the central idea of a story using text and graphic features included in this week’s selections Why We Celebrate the Fourth of July and the Flag Maker. Don’t forget to email all your family and friends about Boosterthon to help support our school fundraising goal!
THIRD
Patsilevas
This week in 3rd grade we started identifying the author’s purpose for writing a text. Students identified clue words to show their understanding of P.I.E. “persuade, inform, and entertain”. Students are also working hard to use related multiplication facts to solve division facts up to 12. In science, students are learning about plant life cycles, plant structures, and planting Lima Beans!
FOURTH
Mateer
This week in Mr. Mateer's class, our young readers embarked on an engaging literary journey with "My Diary From Here to There." This heartfelt story about a family adjusting to a new home sparked rich discussions about characters, settings, and plots, allowing students to connect their own experiences to the narrative.
In our writing sessions, we dove into the whimsical world of unscrambling scrambled sentences. Students crafted some hilariously mixed-up sentences on post-it notes, challenging their classmates to unscramble the words. The room was filled with laughter and learning as everyone participated.
We also showed our academic prowess by tackling both the ELA Module 3 Common Assessment and the Social Studies Lesson 3 Assessment. The kids demonstrated their hard work and dedication, proving they're ready to conquer any challenge.
As we wrap up another incredible week, let's keep the momentum going. Encouragement, teamwork, and a sprinkle of fun are the keys to our continued success. Let's shine bright and continue to support one another on this amazing learning journey.
FIFTH
Kenney
It is fun in fifth this week as we start our unit on natural disasters! We are going to look at a variety of natural disasters, their effects, and how to prepare for them. The main skill focus we have for this week is text structure and looking at how text structures effects texts. In Social Studies we are looking at the Age of Exploration and why people were leaving their homes to find new routes to Asia. We will also look at the negative effects these explorations had on the native peoples of the Americas.
SPECIALS
Senter Physical Education
Kindergarten has the spotlight this week. They played a throwing and catching game where students had to toss an item of their choice up in the air and catch it successfully three times before they could take the item back to their teams base. At the end of the game, they added the total number of items up and were able to determine a winner.
