I hope this message finds you doing well.
On Monday, October 7th, we will begin a three week New Schedule Pilot. Over the past year and a half, a team of NRHS educators worked together to explore adopting a new schedule for NRHS. The working group looked at relevant research, went on site visits to other schools, examined other schedule models and got feedback and input from staff and students. The group proposed a 7 Day, Drop 1 Period schedule with a Flex Block on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This proposed schedule was shared with the school community last spring with a plan to pilot the schedule this school year.
Our top priority areas and goals for a new schedule included collaboration, common planning time, interventions, fewer transitions during the school day, and supporting internships in the future. Another priority was to include a Flex Block, which would help achieve the other identified priorities. Here are some changes that students will experience during the pilot:
- We are moving from 4 to 3 lunches during the Pilot
- Each academic class will drop once during the 7 day cycle - students will have 6 periods a day of instruction not 7
- Classes will be about 10 minutes longer allowing for deeper learning
- Flex Block will be every Tuesday and Thursday and will include a variety of activities including extra help, class meetings, and student and staff choice
- Students will learn about the My Flex Learning Platform in Homeroom on Thursday 10/3 which is the platform we will use to schedule our Flex Blocks during the pilot
- We will be looking for student and staff feedback at the end of the pilot
Upcoming Events:
- School Council 10/17 6pm - NRHS Library
- Early Release PD day - 10/25
- Homecoming Dance 10/26 - 6-9:30pm
Religious Observance Reminder
- Rosh Hashanah, Evening of Wed, Oct 2, 2024 – Fri, Oct 4, 2024
- Best wishes for a happy and healthy new year to all our students, families and staff who observe this high holiday
Have a great week!

NRHS Care Closet
Forgot to put deodorant on today? The school dance is coming up and you have nothing to wear? Cleaned out your closet and found that suit you only wore once? We got you!
Come to the library and 'shop’ at the care closet.
Need something? Take it! Have something? Leave it!
The closet has: personal care items, school supplies, clothing, grab and go snacks and more!
We are actively seeking donations.
If you are doing some fall cleaning, please consider donating gently used clothing (dresses, suits, dress shirts, as well as casual school clothing. You know you’ll never wear that DECA outfit again, but someone else will!)
When you go to the dollar store, (or is the $1.25 store?) consider grabbing an extra deodorant, box of pads, shampoo, or shaving cream and razors!
We are asking that ‘previously used' items be clean, and usable. (For example, a notebook that has plenty of life, with just a few pages ripped out.) Personal care items must be new, please.
Items for the closet:
Dress clothing for ‘events’ like a job interview, DECA competition, dance, sports games (athletes that need to dress up for the game).
Casual clothing
Mittens, hats, scarves, socks
Hygiene products: deodorant, period products, toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, lip balm.
School supplies: notebooks, pencils, pens, paper, backpacks, book bags
Grab and go type foods: granola bars, cereal bars, individual size pasta meals, bottles of water.
When you use The Closet, you are being environmentally conscious, civic minded and participating in the vintage upcycle movement.
Come by and check it out!
Please see Ms. Landry with any questions!
