Message from the Principal
Lake Families,
We hope you enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving break! As a reminder, the school will be closed Monday through Friday 11/25 - 11/29. We look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday, 12/2.
Our Librarian, Mrs. Hayes, has worked with our Leadership Team to implement a school-wide reading incentive program. Please read this important information about it and THANK YOU for encouraging your children to READ throughout the break!
Dear Families,
We are excited to share the opportunity for your child to earn special recognition through our Accelerated Reader (AR) program, powered by Renaissance. At Lake Elementary we utilize the AR reading program to help motivate students to read more. For students in Kindergarten through 2nd grade, we have the Rich Reader award (100,000 words), and for students in 3rd through 5th grades, we have the Millionaire's Club award (1,000,000 words). These awards will be added to our monthly R.O.C.K. Award Assemblies. To earn these awards, students must meet their individual and personalized AR goals, which are based on the number of points they accumulate by reading books and taking quizzes to demonstrate comprehension. These goals are set to be both challenging and attainable for each student, encouraging our Dolphins to grow as readers while enjoying the process. Through the AR program, students can track their progress and celebrate their achievements as they develop a lifelong love for reading. Additionally, we will be ordering trophies so that each grade level can participate in a friendly grade-level motivation that will begin in January. Whichever class has the most words read for that week in their grade WINS the trophy for that week!
Research shows that reading not only improves academic skills like vocabulary and comprehension but also fosters the development of essential life skills. Reading helps children explore different perspectives and challenges through the stories and diverse characters, which in turn enhances social-emotional intelligence, empathy, critical thinking, and problem solving.
We encourage you to support your child in reaching their AR goal by providing access to books that interest them and creating a reading-friendly environment at home. Together, we can help your child become a more confident, compassionate, and successful reader. Please help us to continue to foster a LOVE of books and reading at Lake!
