Unity Week Celebration at Escondido
Yesterday, Escondido staff and students wore orange to show we are together against bullying and UNITED for kindness, acceptance and inclusion. Thank you to our PTA Unity Day chairs and volunteers for helping us put on a great celebration yesterday.
Escondido Buddy Bench
The buddy bench is a simple idea to eliminate loneliness and foster friendship on the playground. Let's spread the message of inclusion and kindness! This week Escondido launched its Buddy Bench information campaign. Please follow the links for more information about how students will utilize the Buddy Bench at school.

Keep it Fun - Not Scary!
No Scary Costumes at School on Halloween
Students are not allowed to wear scary, gory or bloody costumes (Scream, zombie, monster, etc.) and neither are fake weapons allowed at school (leave the sword and lightsaber at home, etc.) For those who are new to us, this school has a long-standing tradition of not allowing scary costumes to avoid traumatizing the younger students.
Children come to school with costumes on already. Children should change out of their costumes at the end of parade with a change of clothes as necessary.
Your PiE Dollars at Work - Meet our Science Specialist!
Hi! I’m Mary Jo Ricci, your very own Escondido Science Specialist.
I feel such gratitude to be supported by PiE at a school that has always appreciated science education and embraces the opportunity to amplify it with the addition of a science specialist on staff. Along with their classroom teachers, I teach one of the three science units our students do each year, K-5.
This is my 11th year at Escondido, but I started as an Escondido parent (who now has a Senior at Gunn!) When I’m not in Room L1, you just might find me chatting sports with my colleagues at recess!
One of the greatest aspects of my job is that I see every student at some point during the year and I get to work with every classroom teacher.
