Hawk Prep Days with Suggested Times
Greetings Hawk Family,
As we prepare for the beginning of the school year (Thursday, August 15th), we have organized days and times to have you and your student pick up a class schedule, pre-purchased items, locate your assigned locker and classes, and get your textbooks. Each grade has a specific day and times based upon their last name to help alleviate wait times. The grades and times are as follows:
8th Grade, Tuesday: August 6th
7th Grade, Wednesday: August 7th
6th Grade, Thursday: August 8th
Parking & Steps for Hawk Prep Day
Parking: The front parking lot and the east parking lot will be open to parents.
Enter: The Cafeteria front doors and walk through to the gym.
Step 1. Gym - Students will receive the following:
1. Schedule (Schedules will also be posted on Aeries in the middle of week)
2. Locker Assignment
3.Purchase items (locks, PE Clothes, Agenda Books, Spirit Wear)
4. Immunization records can be dropped off
5. There is a fitting area for those uncertain about the sizing of PE clothes & dance clothes.
Step 2.
Go find your locker location and classrooms if you need to.
Step 3.
Go to the library and pick up your textbooks for the school year.
Step 4. Go home and secure the following items until August 15th:
Your locker #
Your locker lock (practice opening and locking lock at home 100 times). Memorize your locker combination.
Your schedule
Cover your books
Practice getting up early and preparing for your new going to school routine.
What students are to bring
A bag, back pack or box to put your books into.
A parent or sibling assistant if needed.
****Missing immunization. If your student is missing immunizations, you have received notifications throughout the summer. If the school does not have uptodate immunizations they will not be able to begin classes on the 15th. For any questions email Mrs. Espinoza April.espinoza@simivalleyusd.org.

6th Grade Orientation Sign ups for August 9th from 8:15-10:15 AM
Dear Parents/Guardians and Students:
Welcome to Hillside Middle School. Please complete this form to reserve your spot for 6th grade new student orientation. Please only fill out this form if you are an incoming 6th grader for the 2024 school year. Things you will need to know for Orientation:
1. Please arrive by 7:45 AM so we can start on time.
2. This is a student only event. Parents/Guardians may drop off students in the appropriate zone in front of the school.
3. Students should wear closed toed shoes (no sandals).
4. Students will be rotating to 3 different groups. This day is meant as a fun way to get to know some of our staff members, students, and to learn all about our school.
5. Please arrive on time (10:15 AM) to pick up your child in front of the school.
6. This form will close on August 1st. Please reserve your spot before August 1st.
7th and 8th Grade Orientation Sign ups for August 9th from 11:00-1:00 PM

Welcome to Hillside Middle School. Please complete this form to reserve your spot for new incoming 7th and 8th grade student orientation. Please only fill out this form if you are a NEW incoming 7th or 8th grader for the 2024 school year. DO NOT fill out this form if you were a student at HMS for 6th or 7th grade.

1. Please arrive by 10:35 AM so we can start on time.
2. This is a student only event. Parents may drop off students in the appropriate zone in front of the school
3. Students should wear closed toed shoes (no sandals).

5. Please arrive on time (1:00 PM) to pick up your child in front of the school.

Parent Orientation (Those New to Hillside)
Monday August 12th (3:30-4:30 Alpha L-Z) & 5:30-6:30 Alpha A-K)
In order to accommodate all families, we will be hosting 2 sessions. We encourage families to stick to the alphabet breakdown, but please make a session that works for your family.
Aeries Data Confirmation
Simi Valley Unified District will be utilizing the Aeries computer system again this year for your child’s academic progress, as well as health, contact information and communication. It is required that all families complete the data confirmation in the Aeries portal before school begins on Thursday, August 15, 2024.
NOTE: When updating contact information, it would be helpful to use a cell phone number as the primary number. This will allow you to receive the text messages the school sends out. If you need assistance logging into the Aeries Parent Portal, our school office will reopen on July 29th
Items from Summer Newsletter # 1
VACCINATION REQUIREMENTS
Students entering 7th grade need the following vaccinations:
- 1 dose of Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis (Tdap)
- AND have 2 doses of Varicella (chickenpox).
Students not meeting these requirements will not be allowed to begin school until the requirements are met.
If the school does not have up to date immunizations they will not be able to begin classes on the 15th. For any questions email Mrs. Espinoza april.espinoza@simivalleyusd.org.
2024-2025 Bell Schedule & First Day of School
They will essentially follow the Monday/Tuesday schedule on the first day of school!
August 15th-First Day Of School
* 0 & 7th Periods will not start until August 19th.
* Only students will be permitted on campus during the 1st day of school. We encourage new families come to our Hawk Prep Days & Orientations so they can become families with our campus.
How Early Can I arrive on Campus?
- Students who attend 0 period classes can arrive at 6:45am in the morning on Monday-Thursday. ( 0 & 7 Periods do not begin until August 19th)
- At 7:30am we open the cafeteria for early arrival students and for those who want to get breakfast on Monday-Friday.
- At 7:45am (Monday-Thursday) we open the main gate to the campus.
- On Friday we open the gate at 8:40am
* Low traffic times dropping off students: 7:30am-7:50am
What time is supervision available in the afternoon?
- For those requiring additional supervision, our library is open until 3:30pm. (Alternate location for first full week of school, as books and materials are being picked up.)
- Supervision is available outside until 4:00pm.

DROP OFF & PICK UP PROCEDURES
We appreciate your patience the first 2 weeks as families get accustomed to coming and going on campus. Please review the graphic below that we hope will assist for drop off & pick up times.

The front parking lot has 4 lanes. Lanes 1 & 3 are devoted towards drop off/pick up and lanes 2 & 4 are devoted for thru traffic. See the map below.
Low traffic times are from 7:30am-7:50am.

For families electing to drop off students on corner of Fitzgerald Rd & Whitcomb Ave.
Please help ensure the safety of students coming to school by:
- watching vehicle speed
- not stopping in the middle of the street on Whitcomb Ave or Fitzgerald Rd.
- respecting right of way of students crossing in the cross walk
- reminding your student not to jaywalk across Whitcomb Ave.
