LIbrary News
Ringing in 2025 in the library! We have new displays, one to celebrate Michigan’s 188th birthday, then a choice day with Ozobots, Keva Planks, or winter iSpy on our first day. The rest of the week was spent learning about New Year's traditions worldwide, reading Squirrel's New Year Resolution, and creating resolutions about trying new skills, foods, and books in the new year!
Music News
In Kindergarten music, we learn to keep a steady beat and use a singing voice. We listen and move our bodies to music to demonstrate fast/slow and loud/quiet. Students also learn to play different classroom instruments such as drums, boomwhackers, rhythm sticks, and maracas.
P.E. News
The new Year kicked off a new unit. Students are working hard learning proper bowling techniques, strategies, rules, terms, and etiquette. During this unit we will playa variety of blowing games as well as being introduced to FOWLING!
Art News
1st grade students learned how each snowflake is unique by reading the book “Snowflake Bentley” by Jaqueline Briggs Martin. Students created their own unique snowflakes using white paint and printing old bottle caps, Popsicle sticks, and other found objects onto black paper. Students focused on making their snowflakes symmetrical and unique as no two snowflakes are alike.

Can I bring in birthday treats for my child’s birthday?
We celebrate birthdays at Monteith by giving each student a birthday book and bookmark during their birthday month.
Due to the large number of student allergies, we no longer can allow any type of birthday cakes, cupcakes or cookies in the elementary schools (except for teacher scheduled celebrations) . Please save the present celebrations for home parties. If students want to bring in a small goodie bag of non-edible items ( Ex: pop-its, pencils, etc.) that is allowed but not necessary. If you do send in something with your child it needs to be for the whole class not just a couple students.
Kindness matters at Monteith and Always!
