Superintendent's Update - 6.7.2024
Dear CPS Families,
As we close the chapter on another incredible school year, I am filled with immense pride and gratitude for our entire school community. This year has been filled with remarkable achievements, resilience, and growth. Our students have shown tremendous dedication and creativity, excelling in academics, sports, arts, and extracurricular activities. Their enthusiasm and commitment has been truly inspiring. I would like to thank our staff for going above and beyond, fostering a nurturing and stimulating environment for our students. Their unwavering passion for education and their adaptability in the face of challenges has been instrumental in our success. I am deeply thankful for their hard work and dedication to the students and families of Chelmsford. To our parents and guardians, your support and partnership has been invaluable. Your involvement in your child's education has made a significant impact, and we are grateful for your trust and collaboration. Thank you to all for remaining resilient, flexible, and determined throughout the school year. Next Wednesday, June 12th, is the last day of the 2023/24 school year for all students, and it is a half day of school. This will be my last weekly newsletter of the school year. I will be back in touch before the start of the 2024/25 school year.
Although we are closing out one school year, we are also preparing for the next. You can help us prepare by taking our 2024 Family Survey. We are currently surveying Chelmsford Public Schools families to gain insight into your perception of our schools and district effectiveness. We also want to better understand barriers to families accessing our schools and programs. We need your feedback to ensure we continue to provide high quality, rigorous learning experiences that meet the needs of our learners and prepare them for college and career. We partnered with Panorama Education to conduct our 2024 Family Survey. Panorama safeguards your privacy, keeping your responses anonymous. The survey should only take a few minutes to complete and will be a valuable source of information as we work to continuously improve our schools and district. The survey will be open until Friday, June 14th. You may access the survey at the following link. If you have multiple school-aged children, please feel free to fill out a separate survey to represent each individual child’s experience. The first question allows you to select the school your child attends. Thank you in advance for your participation and thoughtful responses. If you have any questions about the survey administration, please contact your children's building principal.
While heading into your well-deserved summer break, please take a moment to reflect on our accomplishments and the bonds we have strengthened. Let us also prepare for the exciting opportunities that lie ahead in the new school year. Together, we will continue to foster a community of learning, growth, and excellence. Thank you for an amazing school year. Enjoy your summer, and I look forward to welcoming everyone back with renewed energy and enthusiasm at the end of August.
Yours truly,
Jay Lang, Ed.D.

CCOS Scholarships
Council of Chelmsford Schools Awards Scholarships
The Council of Chelmsford Schools (CoCS) has awarded scholarships to two worthy seniors who recently graduated from Chelmsford High School. Each spring, the CoCS awards two scholarships, in the amount of $1,000 each, to two graduating CHS seniors who plan to attend a two- or four-year college in the fall. The Council also awards $100 to each of the Chelmsford Public Schools staff members who inspire the recipient essays. During its meeting on Thursday, June 6, the CoCS invited the two scholarship winners to read their essays.
This year’s recipients were Lyla Kiloski, who plans to attend the University of Rhode Island to double-major in sports media and communications and Delia Schiefen, who will be attending Quinnipiac University to study health sciences and physical therapy. The subject of Ms. Kiloski’s essay was Jennifer Orsini, her Whittier House counselor. She credits Ms. Orsini with not only being incredibly easy to talk to, but also helping choose her current career path. Ms. Schiefen wrote her essay about Matt Bartos, her advisor in LIME Club. She commended Mr. Bartos for his selflessness, and how he’s always willing to help students. In her essay, Ms. Schiefen quoted the famous proverb, “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” She credits Mr. Bartos with “teaching her how to fish” academically since she was a freshman.
