UPCOMING EVENTS
Tutoring is here!
It's that time of year! Tutoring began this week. Math tutoring is held Monday and Tuesday, and Reading Tutoring is held on Thursday and Friday from 3:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. These programs are by invitation only. Participants received an invitation and had to accept the invitation.
Saturday Academy is here!
Saturday Academy begins this Saturday. Students who were invited and accepted the invitation prior to the deadline should report to the back of the school for drop off at 9:00am. Pick up will begin promptly at 11:00am. Please make sure to be on time for drop off and pick up.
Wear Orange on October 30th!
To promote kindness please wear orange on Wednesday, October 30, 2024. This does overlap with wacky tacky day. Make your wacky tacky attire orange.
Book Caracter Parade October 31st
CMIT North Elementary Tiger's 6th Annual Health Awareness & Fitness Day/Fall Festival!
Whether you're interested in promoting wellness as a vendor, volunteering to help, offering your health expertise, or simply attending as a guest, there’s something for everyone! We invite the entire community to come together and celebrate health, wellness, and fitness.

We are offering 10 interactive activities for preK4-5 year olds, focusing on key readiness domains: Physical Well-Being & Motor Development, Language & Literacy, Math, and Social Foundations. Each child will receive a Kindergarten Readiness Kit after completing the activities. There are 50 slots available, and you must register to secure a spot. The event is free for all participants.

Greetings Parents/Guardians! The club lottery has closed and those selected received notification. Clubs started on October 14, 2024. Clubs will be held IN PERSON after the 2:25 p.m.-2:55 p.m. school dismissal. Club decisions are final. If your child was not selected in the initial lottery they have been waitlisted. Clubs go from 3:00-4:00 pm ob the specified days. Clubs students must be picked up at 4:00 p.m.

Nurse Updates
A Message from Nurse Ann
It is imperative that we are aware of any health issues. Please update the school nurse for any new or important medical information. Our immunization compliance is almost 100%, continue to forward documentation to the nurse.
Please help yourself and others -- keep your scholars home when they are not well.
Immunizations
Immunizations must be up-to-date and received by the school nurse to prevent exclusion from school.
Medication forms are attached. Please hand carry newly prescribed medication in the pharmacy packaging. Any adult may deliver the medication to the nurse. (appointments must be made)

We are awarding 10 Dojo points to every scholar registered by 11:59pm tonight!
With the Read-a-thon, we aim to raise $60,000 toward the academic enrichment initiatives and supplies that continue to set CMIT North Elementary Tigers apart from the pack. The Read-a-Thon is easy and requires minimal time commitment for maximum impact.

Kind Kindergarten News!
Hello Families:
Our scholars have mastered the routines of finding their classroom, putting their items away, and preparing for their day. It is important for your scholar to be in class by 8:00 am every day.
Upcoming Events
Oct. 31- Book Character Day Parade and Book Report (due)
All scholars are required to complete the book report.
Nov.15- Topic for STEM Fair project is due
The Kindergarten Team is asking that families use this week to review the STEM Fair packet with your scholars and begin thinking about topics/questions. The topic for their project is due on November 15. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1PtYbaA08AoZmS4k1hxy7EeTLaKDubF-01aaG7nAvGHs/edit
We also encourage families to work with your scholar on their Character Day Book Report that is due October 31. Students are encouraged to be creative with their reports as long as it follows the rubric.
Students will be presenting their reports, so they should be able to speak about the book and character they chose.
Costumes should not have a mask or any weapons with it. Your scholar should be able to move around freely with it and be able to take care of their bathroom needs independently.
ELA: We will be finishing up our Unit 1 and preparing for our Unit 1 assessment. We will introduce our next unit where we will identify and match the common sounds that letters represent. Use letter-sound relationships to decode, including VC, CVC, CCVC. We will also be reviewing our sight words: of, are, that. We will also work on Beginning /d/, beginning and ending /k/ words.

Social Studies:We are continuing to learn about The United States of America. We have learned that Washington DC is our nation's capital and some of the symbols that represent our country.
Math:We are finishing up learning about groups with the number 10 using math manipulatives.
Science: We are continuing learning about the states of matter: solid, liquid, gas.
Friendly reminder: If your scholar has a fever or is not feeling well; please keep them home until their symptoms are gone for at least 24 hours. We are trying to alleviate the spread of germs within our classrooms.

Fascinating First Grade News!
Hello Families,
First grade had an event-filled week. Next week spirit week begins! First grade has sent out the book character day report, that students will need to complete for a project grade. The report is due on 10/31.
Spirit Week:
Monday: Crazy Hat Day
Tuesday: Superhero or Princess shirt
Wednesday: Wacky Tacky attire,
thursday: Book Character Day Parade (dress up as your favorite book character),
Friday: Pajama Day
Please note that on book character day, students MUST bring in the book that goes with their costume.

Spectacular Second Grade News!
We will begin Unit 2 in reading, titled, "Nature's Wonders." The essential question is, What patterns do we see in nature?
In phonics, scholars we will review frequently missed spelling words.
In Math, we will continue Topic 4. This topic focuses on fluently adding within 100.
In Science, we will continue Topic 2: Changing Matter. In Social Studies, we will continue Our American Culture.
We kindly request your support in reinforcing the importance of following our School Motto with your scholars. I will Respect Myself and Others, I will Opt to Be Scholarly, I will Act Responsibly, and I will React with Kindness. Lastly, please label your scholar's school uniform jackets.
Important information:
PUMPKIN DAY ACTIVITIES October 31st: Permission slip were sent home. Please use the signup genius your scholar's teacher sent to purchase items needed for a day of learning and fun.
BOOK CHARACTER DAY October 31st: scholars may come dressed as their favorite book character. Don't forget to send a copy of the book.
It is highly recommended that scholars practice their basic addition and subtraction facts with flashcards regularly at home. Here's a great tool to use:

Terrific Third Grade News!
In Social Studies, students will begin Chapter 2: Lesson 2 Types of Resources.
Students will understand the three types of resources used to create a product.
In Math, we are starting Topic 5, Fluently Multiplying and Dividing. At this point scholars have been using skip counting and the Distributive Property as their main strategies for multiplication. We are going to continue practicing these facts to develop fluency, so scholars can quickly and accurately solve multiplication and division problems.
In Science, scholars are learning about how magnetic forces work, ways that certain metal objects can attract and repel each other.
Fourth Grade
Weekly News!
Next week in Reading, we will begin Unit 2 and begin analyzing main idea and details in an informational text. In Social Studies, we will wrap up Chapter 2 by studying how the United Staes faced continuity and change in the 21st century. In Math, students will take topic 4 test and complete topic 1-4 benchmark. In Science, students will use models to describe how electric currents flow in circuits.
On Monday we will be going to Skate Zone. The cost of the trip includes lunch. Students can bring lunch if they wish. We recommend students to wear their PE clothes.

Fabulous Fifth Grade News!
Greetings! Tigers! Tigers! Thank you for your hard work and perseverance this week! Next week is our Book Parade on October 31st. Please ensure your scholar is portraying a character in a book of their choice. October 31st is also the end of Quarter 1. All assignments are due and must be turned in before Wednesday, October 30th.
Clubs
Clubs are in full effect. Please ensure each scholar that is participating in CMIT CLUBS are attending their assigned Club and attending on their assigned day. Check the schedule for specific details. They must be on the CLUB roster to attend. If you have questions, please reach out to their Club coordinator.
RELA
Students will take the Unit 1 Assessment and migrate into Unit 2. The genre of focus is an informational text. We will study the story "Far from Shore." The reading skills of "evaluate details" and "explain author's purpose" will be analyzed and practiced throughout the lesson. The word study will focus on regular and irregular pronouns. Social Studies
Chapter 4 is lengthy and with 5 lessons inside it, we are deciphering every detail as we learn about William Penn, Roger Williams, the middle colonies, how the colonial government ran things early on, and why slaves were made to come here in the first place. It's been very interesting and our scholars are really intrigued. We'll continue to deep dive this chapter, as we learn and progress. We got this Tigers!! ~Ms. West

Creative Arts
Superior Specials News!
Kindergarteners are working on Lines and Shapes. We have reviewed safe scissor use and techniques.
Students will create their own artwork focused on lines and shapes and experiment with collage.
First graders are finishing a project called,
I Love My Hair!
Students will create a portrait with an abstract hair design that depicts a particular mood or feeling, using line, repetition, pattern, and color.
Second graders are creating imaginary creatures in
“Monster Mashup”
Students will present their never-before-seen creature hybrids by combining parts from five animals, to create one in its habitat. We will critique next week.
Third graders are making Patterned Landscapes. Students will create a landscape that contains patterns.
Fourth grade, Names Revealed Through Color:
Students are creating geometric name designs using color, shapes, lines, and text to express an aspect of their personality. They will submit Artist Statements next week along with a critique
Fifth graders are making “Monster Line Drawings” Students create illustrations from random markings to create a 3D image with form and texture. Artist Statements and reviews are due next week.
Music
Hello!! K is continuing doing activity with using the 4 ways we use our voice. 1st and 2nd grade are beginning to learn about weak and strong beats. 3rd grade will continue creating rhythms with a cup, learning the Cup song. 4th grade will begin doing a mini group project in either creating a melody to play on piano or a rhythm to play on the drums for the class. 5th grade is finishing up their note value centers!
Technology
Hello! K-1 students developed mouse skills such as pointing, clicking, double-clicking, and dragging while practicing counting, as well as matching shapes and colors.
2-5 students have been practicing to type the letters x and z and also learn how to make capital letters and type three more keys: the apostrophe, slash and full stop.
PE
Good week! This week, we will be continuing to work on our procedures of class in order to prepare us for next weeks activity. Please remember to make sure your scholar is in sneakers! Have a great week!
LEGO
Hello! We are continuing to move through the curriculum and Lego lessons. We will be working on the following:
K-1: XL World: Outdoor Activities
2: Science in Nature & Our Daily Life: Building chicken coops
3: Animals & Their Environment: Animal Behaviors
4-5: Science Connection: Energy Resources.
STEM II
This week our Kinder & 1st: Continued with our creating our bats to go along with the story Amara and the bats. We designed and added wings this week.
2nd: Continued with creating their structure to protect food. These structures are looking really good!
3rd: Continued with building their games.These games are really creative!
4th: This week, scholars cut out their patterns from the fabric.They are so excited about seeing their designs come to life! Next week, we begin assembling and sewing!
5th: Completed creating their shelters and began presenting their commercials and testing their shelters ability to withstand wind and rain in front of the class.
Counselor's Corner!
Hey there, CMITNES Families! Our K-2 students just wrapped up some awesome lessons on emotions and feelings with the school counselor, and now it's time for 3rd through 5th grade to dive in! We're all about recognizing and expressing our BIG emotions in a healthy way. From practicing deep breathing to learning how to talk about what we feel, these sessions will help students navigate anything that comes their way. Get ready to explore how we can calm our minds, take deep breaths, and understand the power of expressing our emotions!
