Principal's Message
Dear Potter Families,
I hope this message finds you well and thriving as we embark on another exciting month here at Potter Jr. High. It's hard to believe how quickly time flies, and we're already in the midst of welcoming October. As we embrace the changing seasons and look forward to the events and activities ahead, I wanted to take a moment to share some important updates and highlights from our wonderful school community.
1. Celebrating Achievements: First and foremost, I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to our students, teachers, and staff for their unwavering dedication and hard work. Progress reports went home last week, and soon we will celebrate the academic achievement of our students. While grades may not reflect the hard work and dedication students put forth on a daily basis, we must acknowledge all students' commitment to their education.
2. School Site Council: Congratulations to Mr. Ruben Palomino, Mrs. Tania Aguirre, and Mrs. Mayra Acosta for being voted to Potter Jr. High's School Site Council Team. They will be joining Mr. Aldo Alvidres and Mr. Nathan Erb as council's parent reps.
3. Parent-Teacher Conferences: We encourage open communication between parents and teachers. Please make sure you schedule and attend the upcoming Teacher-Parent Conferences scheduled on October 15th-18th. If you have questions or concerns regarding your child's education, please do not hesitate to reach out to their teacher or our administrative team. We are here to support your child's academic journey.
4. Community Involvement: Our school thrives because of the active involvement of parents, guardians, and community members. Recently, we welcomed over 25 dads to our Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) where dads and guardians learned about volunteering opportunities at Potter Jr. High. If you are interested in volunteering or have ideas to contribute to our school's success, please let us know. We value your input and participation.
5. Safety and Well-being: The safety and well-being of our students remain our top priority. We are continually reviewing and enhancing our safety protocols to ensure a secure and nurturing learning environment for all. If you have any questions or suggestions related to safety, please don't hesitate to contact our school office. To continue this discussion in more details, our next Coffee with the Principal will be dedicated to reviewing safety protocols and procedures followed to ensure students' safety. The meeting will start at 8:30 am. You will have an opportunity to join in person or virtually. Link to meeting to be shared soon.
In closing, I want to express my gratitude for your ongoing support and commitment to the success of our school community. Together, we can create a positive and enriching experience for our students, nurturing their growth and development in both academic and personal realms. If you have any questions or would like to discuss any matters further, please feel free to contact our office. Let's make the most of the month ahead, as we continue to foster a love for learning and a strong sense of community here at Potter Jr. High.
Warm regards,
Dr. Alex Gonzalez
Principal Potter Jr. High
Coffee with the Principal
You are invited to attend our next Coffee with the Principal and learn about the school's safety plan. We will share procedures and protocols followed that are designed to keep students safe at all times. Your input is welcomed!
Celebrating our Love for Literarcy
Beanstack Reading Program
This year, FUESD has introduced Beanstack to all TK-8 students, a program designed to inspire daily reading and foster a strong culture of literacy. Through Beanstack, students log their reading minutes and track their progress, engaging in friendly competitions between grade levels, departments, and classes to celebrate our shared love for reading. Students with the highest scores will also be recognized at FUESD Board meetings for their achievements.
We are proud to announce that Bryce was our first top reader, leading the way at Potter with the most minutes read! Bryce was honored at last month’s board meeting and received a special autographed book from our Superintendent in recognition of this remarkable achievement.
In a continued effort to support literacy, Superintendent Hazel and our Governing Board have generously provided a $2,000 budget to every English Language Arts teacher, Social Studies teacher, and Educational Specialist for expanding their classroom libraries. This ensures our Braves have access to a wide range of books each and every day!
Additionally, we’ve invested $2,000 specifically to purchase Spanish books for our dual language students, expanding our school library's collection to better serve our bilingual readers.
With so many new books now available, there’s only one thing left to do: check out a book, get comfortable, and dive into the endless adventures that reading offers!

Important Reminders
We understand that drop off and pick up can be challenging for many. There is only one way in and one way out to our school. Because of this challenge, we ask parents to comply with our traffic rules as listed below:
- Enter school with caution;
- Please do NOT speed;
- Only drop off on the yellow curb after completing the driveway loop;
- Please do not double-park;
- Only make right turns exiting the school to help speed traffic at peak times;
- Only park if you have an appointment with your child's teacher or if you have business in the the office;
- Do not enter the staff parking lot;
- Yield to school buses;
- Follow staff's traffic commands; and
- Students who cross Reche Road should always use the crosswalk in front of our school.
Please help us keep our Braves safe.
Early Check-Outs
In order to maximize instructional minutes and to avoid after school traffic congestion, please note that students will not be called out during the last 25 minutes of the school day. If you need to sign your student out early, please do so by 2:45 pm (1:45 on Wednesdays). It is often difficult to get a hold of teachers as they are wrapping up the end of the school day. This will also help reduce classroom disruptions. We appreciate your support!
Fallbook High School Football Games
Fallbook High School has informed us that all Potter Jr. High students attending football games must be accompanied by an adult. Students are not allowed to attend games without adult supervision.
Red Ribbon Week
RED RIBBON WEEK is Celebrated Annually October 23-31. Red Ribbon Week highlights the importance of living a drug-free life. It presents an opportunity for parents, educators, and communities to reinforce the drug-free messages they share with their children throughout the year.
Our amazing Potter ASB has planned a Red Ribbon Spirit Week and a candygram fundraiser. Additionally, our Kiki Camarena School Club will organize activities and pass out bracelets to celebrate Red Ribbon Week! Stay tuned for more information on Spirit Week!
Message from our PTA President- Mrs. Miriam Erb
The PTA is already hard at work supporting our kids and the Potter community! What I Wish my Parents Knew Video
We asked our students, "What do you wish your parents knew about you?" Their responses will amaze you and hopefully help in understanding them. This has been very helpful for us and are doing everything we can, with everyone, to support them at all levels- academics, social-emotional, self-esteem, and just being heard. We are committed to our Braves: Every Brave, Every Day!
