Principal's Corner
Dear Slate Hill Families,
It is that time of year where it is starting to get cooler and students wear more jackets and sweatshirts to school. It also means our Slate Hill stars are leaving their jackets and sweatshirts around the building and our lost and found is getting full. We would love for you to check them out before Thanksgiving break! It is also helpful to put your child's name inside all of the lunch boxes, water bottles and jackets that come to school. Our plans will be to donate the items over Thanksgiving break!
A tip for drop off and pick up: Please use your blinker. I have noticed over the last few weeks of being our front during this time that when families use their blinkers the line seems to move faster because it helps cars on the street know who is coming in to Slate Hill and who is not. THANK YOU to all of our Slate Hill families for doing a great job following our Drop off and Pick up expectations too! We appreciate your help keeping our Slate Hill stars safe!
Halloween is this Thursday! Students may wear their costume to school on Thursday, October 31st or bring something that can go over their clothes. We are not allowing costumes with blood, gore or any weapons. They will not be allowed to do any costume changing in the restroom. Staff will plan fun activities with their students in the classroom following or before our parade begins.
Families are invited to join us at our annual Halloween Parade held outside Slate Hill on October 31st starting at 2pm where you can see all of our Slate Hill stars and their costumes. Our 1/2 Day Kindergarten Stars will be having their own special parade at 10:45am on the 31st through our hallways. Each year we also have a staff costume contest where the students vote for the best team costumes! Staff winners receive lunch from their principal! I hope that you can come and join us for our annual parade. Live streaming is still in the works for those that will be working. More info to come on that!
WOW! We have received a lot of donations so far! THANK YOU! We are having a Coat Drive through October 31st! We are accepting new or gently used coats in our office. We are also participating in the Worthington Pantry Food Drive which ends November 15th! More information below.
We are excited to share that the second annual Polaris Gift Shop will be on Saturday, December 7, 2024 from 9:00 am-3:30 pm at Grace Polaris Church. They are trying to reach 200 families from Slate Hill, Wilson Hill, and Worthington Park. Grace Polaris Church is located at 8225 Worthington Galena Rd, Westerville, OH 43081 (at the corner of Lazelle and Worthington-Galena Roads). In order to participate, you MUST register so please click on the flier below or go to their website at PolarisGiftShop.com to register.
As always, we want to partner with you in your child's education so please reach out to me if I can help or support you in anyway!

We all experience big emotions every day. While some adults might have the skills needed to process these emotions, children are still learning new coping skills every day. Below are some different ways to encourage your children to process their emotions in a healthy way.

Dear Parents/Guardians,
In order to honor the upcoming cultural tradition of Día De Los Muertos, our school will again be creating a school “ofrenda” or offering.
This “ofrenda” will honor our families by sharing important things such as pictures of your friends and family, candles, incense, water, marigolds, your loved ones’ favorite foods, and decorations such as skulls and tissue paper flowers.
We would love for your loved ones to be honored in our school ofrenda!
If you’d like, please send a picture of a loved one who has passed away so that it’s placed on the “ofrenda.” If you feel more comfortable sending a picture of a famous philosopher, singer, actor, astronomer etc., We will gladly place those pictures as well on the “ofrenda.”
Please send pictures with your child as soon as possible with your student’s name and grade for a safe return, to Ms. Bonacci (room 11). Our ofrenda will be available for you to view in the top row display case by the front office and door 1.
Thank you very much,
The EL Team
(Toni Bonacci, Margaret Wilcox, Brittany Thielke, Sarah Pettigrew, Vitoria Neuhard, & Guisselle Bacigalupo)
From the Health Office
It's that time of year again…….
Your child is too ill to go to school if he or she has any of the following symptoms:
Temperature above 100.4 F
Vomiting or diarrhea within the past 24 hours
Shortness of breath or has an increase in wheezing during normal activity
Has a cough that interrupts normal activity
Pain from an earache, headache, or sore throat
Has yellow or green drainage from nose and/or eye(s)
Rash over body or localized to one area of the body
Fatigue and needs bed rest
Signs of conjunctivitis such as red, itchy, crusty, or swollen eyes
Students who are sent home with a fever of 100.4 degrees or higher must remain at home until the student is fever-free for 24 hours without the use of medication. In most cases, this means that students will miss the following school day. Please understand that fevers can reoccur within a 24-hour time period and this policy is in the best interest of all students.
Students who are sent home due to vomiting or diarrhea must also stay home for 24 hours to ensure that these symptoms are gone before returning to school.
Students exhibiting signs of conjunctivitis (crusty eyes, red or swollen eyes) may return once the symptoms have been treated and are gone or a note is presented from a doctor stating that the student may return to school.
Students who show signs of a communicable disease, such as exhibiting a rash, may return to school once the rash is gone or a note is presented from a doctor stating that the student may return to school.
Please communicate illness with the office.
Thank You!

Annual Worthington Schools Food Drive
This long standing tradition has been such a great help to the Worthington Resource Pantry, the St Michael's Church Pantry, and the families in our community who depend on us for additional food resources! The Worthington Resource Pantry anticipates serving more than 1,500 different families this December, as compared to 1,000 families last year, and the extra food will help in a big way.
We are planning to schedule food drive pick-ups on the morning of Friday, November 15th.
