GIVING TREE
Every year, we set up a Giving Tree during the holiday season. Inspired by Mr. Feinstein's message to pledge good deeds and help make the world a better place, this year’s contributions have been the most generous yet. Thank you, Chace Street families, for your incredible support!

GOOD NEWS CALL
The "Good News Call" recognizes students who go out of their way to do something kind for others or show exceptional actions without being prompted. It's a way to celebrate those who go above and beyond. As J.C. Watts Jr. said, "Character is about doing the right thing even when no one is watching."
PTO
The next PTO meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, January 8th, at 6:00 PM. The Sweetheart Dance will take place on Friday, January 24th, from 6:00 to 8:30 PM at White's Restaurant in Westport.

News From the Classrooms

Gingerbread Board
Our December was full of gingerbread themed activities. We enjoyed reading several different versions of the Gingerbread Man story. We practiced retelling the stories to include the characters, setting, and beginning, middle, and end.
Mrs. Happel Grade 4 & 5 ELA/Social Studies
Happy Holidays from Mrs. Happel's Classes!
The fourth and fifth grade students have been working very hard on their narratives. Their rough drafts have shown a lot of creativity, and many have enjoyed writing them. After the break, students will use the writing rubric to review and make any necessary revisions before their final copies are shared.
The children have enjoyed reading a variety of high interest fiction and nonfiction passages. The goal is to develop higher levels of reading comprehension, the ability to respond to the text using specific evidence from the text, along with comprehension of vocabulary using context clues. The text levels along with access to the text have been differentiated based on the individual child’s needs.
The fourth graders have just finished learning about the northeast region, and the fifth graders are finishing early colonization.
Mrs. Cavanagh Grade 4 & 5 STEM
In December:
5C explored decimal numbers in math and delved into space science. Before the break, we tapped into our creativity and practiced following directions by decorating and assembling paper gingerbread houses.
4F focused on working with fractions with unlike denominators and began learning about electricity. These skills will continue to be a focus as we move into January.
Mr. Dagenais Grade 4 & 5 STEM
Merry Christmas from 5D. A fun time was had by all. We worked on Christmas art, calculated the total cost of the gifts in the classic Christmas Carol-the 12 days of Christmas, had cookies and milk, and relish in the spirit of the season.
SCHOOL NURSE
A few reminders from Nurse Christine in our Health Office to help keep all of our students safe and healthy:
Students with active vomiting, diarrhea, open rashes, crusty/inflamed eyes, and/or temperature > 100 are asked to remain home from school.
Students may return from school when their temperature is < 100 for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication.
Illness Specific:
Strep: Students must be on antibiotics for 24 hours before returning to school, and they need a note to return.
Pink eye: Must be on antibiotics for 24 hours before returning to school.
Hand Foot Mouth: Fever-free for 24 hours and no open skin lesions. All areas must be scabbed/closed over
Vomiting/Diarrhea: May return when tolerating good amounts of food/water and no vomiting/diarrhea for 24 hours
Please do not send medication to school in your child’s backpack. Anything with an active ingredient is designated a medicine in school. This includes cough syrup, cough drops, ointments, nasal sprays, vitamin gummies, etc. If you would like to have any medications available for your child at school, please notify the Health Office.
Students after surgery, for hurt or broken limbs, sprains, strains, or any student with assistive devices (splints, casts, boots, crutches, etc.) must have a note to be in school as well as MD clearance or restrictions for recess/PE.
Please notify the Health Office if your child has RSV, Covid, Influenza, or Strep.
