WAYNE-WESTLAND TRUNK-OR-TREAT
We invite our Wayne-Westland families to join us for Trunk or Treat from 5-6:30 p.m. on October 17 at the Board of Education offices, 36745 Marquette, Westland. Thanks to the generous donations from our central office staff, Mary Browe Senior Center, and community partners, we will have Trunk or Treat stations, music, games, and fun. We hope to see you there!

4TH/5TH GRADE GIRLS BASKETBALL REGISTRATION
Calling all 4th and 5th grade girls. If you are interested in playing basketball click on the link below. There will be practice once weekly and games on five Saturdays in November and December.

ATTENTION HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
Are you interested in learning more about college and trade school opportunities available to you? WWIA has scheduled reps from various universities and trade schools to come in to talk with students about their organization and options for higher learning. All virtual high school students are welcome to attend either in-person or virtually.
If there is a school/organization you are interested in attending please complete the appropriate link.
For the question that asks who your teacher of that hour is put SWANSON. That will alert the presenter that you are a virtual student and I will send you a calendar invite so that if you cannot attend in person you will have a google meets link to listen and participate.

FREE APPLICATION OCTOBER and FASFA SEMINAR
ATTENTION SENIORS:
October is free college application month. Students can apply to any Michigan college/university and the application fee is waived in October. For more information on how to apply to post-secondary learning please reach out to your school counselor (Mr. Booker or Ms. Horgan) or Miss Cheyanne, our College and Career Readiness Advisor - BerryC@wwcsd.net.
SENIOR FASFA SEMINAR: October 17th at 9:00am come to WWIA or hop on the link to learn about the FASFA application process, process for applying to colleges, and being one step closer to graduation.
Complete the Electronic Benefits Form to Secure Additional Funding for Students
The State of Michigan has included free breakfast and lunch for all students in the 2024-2025 School Aid Budget. All Wayne-Westland Community Schools students receive free breakfast and lunch.
In order for the district to continue to offer free breakfast and lunch to all students, the completion of 2024-2025 Electronic Benefits Form is requested for all families, regardless of household income, in-person or virtual status.
In addition, the Michigan Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Education allocate
additional need-based funding to local districts based on the results of the benefit forms. These funds support students who have diverse and qualifies students for potential benefits such as
- Resources for classrooms, teachers and students
- Before and after school academic and enrichment programs
- Health and wellness services
- Waived college application fees
- Reduced internet fees for students, and
- Electronic benefits transfer.

TWO-WAY COMMUNICATIONS
Weekly two-way communications with your mentor teacher are a requirement of the program.

For those interested in playing sports or participating in clubs at their school of residence I will include links to the middle and high school newsletters as they become available. If you are not sure what would be your school would be you can look it up at LOCATE MY SCHOOL
Some schools may not yet have a newsletter out to families. I will add and update schools as they become available.
GRADUATION ALLIANCE STUDENT GUIDE
6th - 12th GRADERS
After completing the orientation and when logging into your Graduation Alliance Account remember the following:
- Make sure you are logged into the computer with your school Google email and password.
- Website: app.gradally.com
- Click on Login with Google
- Choose your class to work on. You can work on one class at a time until completion or the set week's lessons in each class.
- Look at and watch the Target End Date. All lessons MUST be completed with a 60% or higher before that target end date.

Family Resource Center
Wayne-Westland Community Schools has a Family Resource Center (FRC), offering free services to all students and families within our district. Among the services provided are basic needs assistance, access to over 700 local resources, and a Laundry Assistance Program. Additionally, the FRC offers essential items, such as emergency toiletries, socks, underwear, hats, gloves, and scarves, to those in need. School supplies and backpacks are also available year-round for any district student.

OK2SAY Celebrates 10 Years of Contributing to Safer Schools
Wayne-Westland Community Schools is proud to participate in OK2SAY, and to recognize their decade of serving as a resource for students, school employees and schools.
Since its launch in September 2014, OK2SAY has received over 56,000 tips identifying students in crisis and helping to prevent school violence. The top five cumulative tip categories have been suicide threats, bullying, drugs, other (anxiety, depression, harassment), and planned school attacks.

WESTLAND YOUTH ASSISTANCE AND WAYNE YOUTH SERVICES
Both cities of Westland and Wayne offer programming to support youth and their families struggling with challenging and/or negative youth behaviors, truancy issues and more. Some of the services offered through their programs include, but are not limited to: youth support groups, parent support, case management, referrals and more. Exact services will vary by program. COREWELL SCHOOL BASED HEALTH CENTERS
Did you know we have 2 comprehensive clinics in our District, through Corewell Health? These clinics are open and able to offer services to students such as: sports physicals, sick care-acute illness visits, asthma evaluations and care, school immunizations, mental health/wellness and more. We have a clinic located at John Glenn High School (for students ages 10-21) and Adams Middle School (for students ages 5-21).
