Cozine Climber Updates - September 6
A Note From Cozine:
Hi Climber Families!
Thank you all for supporting us through the start of the school year! We had an amazing first month! It was also great to meet so many of you at our Open House!
We are working hard with our students to set high behavior and academic expectations. This starts with our four school rules. Ask your child about our rules! They should be able to tell you that they are: Be Kind, Be Safe, Be Honest, and Be Scholarly. These rules are the basis our house system, too, so ask your child which house they are in and they should be able to tell you the Latin word for the house name and the rule it represents.
Here's a quick guide for you:
π’ - Humanitas, House of Kindness
π΄ - Salutem, House of Safety
π΅ - Veritas, House of Honesty
π‘ - Eruditio, House of Scholarship
We are also working with a shirt vendor to create an online store where you can buy Cozine and House merch, so keep an eye out for that in future newsletters!
In Kindness,
Ms. Jodi Notch, Mrs. Lisa Dalton, and Ms. Tamara Martinezjunco
NEW INFORMATION
Dollars for Duke (And Friends)
Please help us raise money to support Cozine's animal sanctuary! We are asking students to bring money from September 9th - 13th. The class in each grade level that brings in the most money will earn a class party!
Let's help our animals have a great year filled with treats and comfy bedding!
STEAM Night
Cozine's Family S.T.E.A.M. Night is on Tuesday, September 24 from 5:00 - 6:30 pm. Join us for a fun-filled evening of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math activities.
Fall Picture Day
Fall picture day is Tuesday, October 1, 2024. All students will have their picture taken for their school I.D. card and the yearbook. Order forms to purchase picture packages will be sent home the week prior to pictures. Families also have the option to purchase online. Please see the flyer below for ordering details and helpful tips to make picture day great!
Cozine Wellness Team
Starting a new school year can be overwhelming for students. Navigating new curricula can sometimes be challenging and discouraging. One way to tackle this issue is by fostering a growth mindset. A growth mindset is the belief that abilities and intelligence can be developed through effort, hard work, and perseverance. When kids adopt a growth mindset, they are more likely to persevere and remain motivated when faced with difficulties.
Encouraging your child to view challenges as opportunities for growth can help them build resilience and a love for learning. Letβs work together to support our students in developing a growth mindset this school year! To learn more about how you can help your student, click the link below.
Cozine Garden and Sanctuary Club
Garden & Sanctuary Club is starting in September! We are in search of parents/community members that are passionate about gardening to come share their excitement with our junior gardeners! Garden & Sanctuary Club meets once or twice a month on Wednesday morning from 8-8:45AM. If you are interested in sharing your expertise, teaching a lesson, or just helping in planting and harvesting, please let us know!! We are also looking for help with rewiring our chicken run with 1 x 1/2 inch cage wire. If you can help us make our garden and sanctuary a better place, please email Mrs. Pash at pashca@nv.ccsd.net or call (702)799-0690 ext 3043.
REMINDER: Read to Spin, Spin to Win!
All students (K-5) should be reading each night as part of their homework. Reading daily positively affects academic achievement, improves writing skills, stimulates creativity, and helps to build empathy. All minutes read should be recorded on the student's APPLE CORE bookmark. Once the bookmark is complete and turned in, students will have the opportunity to spin the prize wheel.
Restaurant Fundraiser Nights
Thank you for supporting Cozine during our restaurant night fundraisers! We love to see everyone out enjoying dinner or a treat while supporting the school! This money helps us support student involvement programs such as sports, cheerleading, and our garden club.
Please mark your calendars for our upcoming Restaurant Nights:
- Wednesday, September 18, 4:00-8:00pm - Dave's Hot Chicken at 1735 W Craig Rd. Suite 1, 89032
We look forward to more fun restaurant nights this school year!
House Spirit Days
We have monthly House Spirit Days and have moved them to THURSDAYS this year! Students are encouraged to dress in their house spirit colors for these days! All returning Climbers will stay in the same house.
Our houses are as follows:
Humanitas - House of Kindness (Green)
Salutem - House of Safety (Red)
Veritas - House of Honesty (Blue)
Eruditio - House of Scholarship (Yellow)
Our next House Spirit Day is:
Thursday, October 3
Let's go all out and show our HOUSE SPIRIT!
REMINDERS
REMINDER: Cell Phones and Smart Watches
At Cozine, students are required to keep their personal communication devices off and in their backpacks during instructional hours. Students are permitted to use their phones before and after school. This aligns with District policy that helps prevent bullying, cyber bullying, unfiltered internet access, and cheating. If you have questions about this policy, please reach out to the office or school administration. At this time, we will not be using the signal blocking cell phone pouches at Cozine ES.
REMINDER: Parking at Cozine
Cozine has a small parking lot, and our lot is closed off to general traffic to keep our students safe as they walk to school. CCSD employees, school buses, and anyone holding a valid Handicapped Pass are permitted into our parking lot. Please see Cozine duty personnel if you fall into this category and need to enter the lot.
Also, to keep traffic patterns predictable for students that do walk, we allow traffic to enter our parking lot at the north entrance and exit through the south exit. Our staff enforces this to keep everyone safe, and we appreciate you helping them with this by following this pattern.
