Syvrud's Snippets
Dear Marshall Families,
This month we are really learning about the character trait of Gratitude. Research and studies have proven that showing gratitude has positive benefits to both our physical and mental health. We have an awful lot to be grateful for here in Marshall. So my Snippets today will actually be my moments of gratitude.
I am grateful to all who support Marshall High School and especially those who voted in favor of supporting our students and staffulty in this week's referendum.
I am grateful to work with a group of people that truly cares about the success of every Cardinal.
I am grateful for all the community members, alumni and students that come out to watch our Cardinals on the court, field, stage or in concert.
I am grateful that this community supports our students in becoming college/career ready by allowing our students to take college classes while they are still in high school and by providing Youth Apprenticeship Opportunities for our Cardinals.
I am grateful for the opportunity to watch our students grow and develop academically, athletically and artistically.
I am grateful to work in a school district that promotes academic clubs. We have 5 out of the 6 Career Technical Skills Organizations. FFA, FCCLA, SkillsUSA, HOSA, & DECA. For a small school we offer a large number of high quality extra-curricular activities.
I am grateful to work with so many great people who dedicate their time to Coach, Sponsor, or lead these clubs and organizations.
I am grateful that our students have the ability to STANDOUT by Showing Up, Doing the Right Thing, and Putting in the work.

Trick or Treat to Feed Others
On November 4th, the MHS Student Council and DECA members collected donations in the Marshall community for the "Trick or Treat so Others Can Eat" annual food drive. The bags were collected and brought back to the high school where they were sorted through the next few days by members of MHS Athletic Excellence, Student Council, and DECA. Once the food was sorted by expiration date, members of the Athletic Excellence group stocked the shelves of the food pantry here in the high school, which has served many students and their families in every building in the district over the past seven years. The remaining food will be donated to the Waterloo/Marshall Food Pantry. In total, there were over 1,550 items donated and on behalf of the Marshall High School Student Council, DECA and Athletic Excellence groups we would like to sincerely thank the generosity and support of our community. Thank you for helping us, help others!
“Shrek the Musical” is finding true love's first kiss in Marshall
Marshall, WI - Marshall Theatrical Productions and the students of Marshall High School are performing the Tony award winning hit Shrek the Musical songs from Jeanine Tesori and a side splitting book by David Lindsay-Abaire. Based on the hit Dreamworks movie, come join Marshall Theatrical Productions at the Marshall Elementary stage November 14, 15, 16, 17. Shrek the Musical will have you laughing, cheering, and rolling into a “big bright beautiful world” along with Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona.
Director Kat Hoggatt leads a revamped and revitalized theater program in Marshall with this boisterous tail and the talented actors of Marshall. "Once upon a time, there was a little ogre named Shrek...." And thus begins the tale of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue. Throw in a short-tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you've got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there's one on hand... and his name is Shrek.
Marshall Theatrical Productions’s Shrek the Musical promises to have you cheering on our unique heroes and their incredible journey. Come be a part of a #bigbrightbeautifulworld. Tickets can be purchased at the door.

Yearbook Updates
Yearbooks - Update
Senior Pictures
Many students like to submit a special senior portrait for the yearbook. The deadline to submit your Senior Photo for this year’s yearbook will be Friday, November 22nd. If you plan to submit a senior portrait but will not be able to send it by that date, please let me know so that I am able to follow up. Please note, professional photos are not required. We will print the school identification photo for students who don't submit an alternate. When considering which photo to include, please consider options that feature the student as the focal point, and which meet school requirements regarding appropriateness. Digital portraits should use a high resolution quality. Photos should be emailed to Mrs. Abagail Bednar at abednar@marshallschools.org If you need to submit a hard-copy of the photo, please turn it in to the main office, labeled for Yearbook with the student’s name.
Senior Recognition Ads
If you would like to purchase space in the yearbook to celebrate a graduating senior, orders can be placed online at jostens.com/yearbooks. Quotes and photographs can be uploaded directly to the website. If you need to submit a hard copy of any photos or information, please drop it in the front office, labeled with the student’s name. The deadline to order a recognition ad is January 31.
If you would like to place an order for this year’s yearbook you can choose it under optional fees in IC or reach out to Mrs. Leaota Braithwaite in the main office.

SkillsUSA Competes at BlackHawk Tech
On November 1st the SkillsUSA team consisting of Carson Connelly, Lucas Schlimgen, Maddy Weyh, and Chase Stuntebeck went to Blackhawk Tech for a welding competition. There were 5 schools at this competition counting Marshall. The events consisted of a welding portion, job interview portion and a written weld test. I am so proud to say that our Marshall Cardinal team showed up to compete.
Carson Connelly placed first in the welding competition. Lucas Schlimgen placed second in welding, and first in the job interview. Chase Stuntebeck placed third in the job interview. This was Maddy and Chase's first SkillsUSA competition. I am so proud of these kids. They represented our school with the Standout mentality and worked hard to receive four of the six medal spots.
