The Trekker Times
November 11, 2024
Dear Bishop Baraga Trekkers,
I hope this message finds you well! In honor of Veterans Day, our students began the day with a living rosary. They gathered in prayer, offering their intentions for our brave veterans who have served our country with dedication and courage. We extend our deepest gratitude to all veterans for their selfless service and sacrifice.
Please note that students in third through eighth grade will be taking the IOWA assessments this week. These assessments are crucial for evaluating our students' progress and identifying areas for growth in our curriculum. Any student that is absent this week will be able to make up their testing next week.
Our 8th graders are busy planning their class trip to Great America. They are holding a pasty fundraiser to help with the cost. In your Monday Mailer you will find an order form for pasties from the Pasty Oven. The order forms and payments are due on Monday, November 18th. Pasties will be available for pick-up on Friday, November 22nd, from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. Thank you for supporting our 8th graders!
Lastly, I am delighted to announce that our Caught Being a Christian Award this week goes to Lilly DeGroot. Lilly demonstrated the virtue of generosity by sharing her bake sale money with a classmate. Great job, Lilly!
God bless,
Angela Oller

Third grade students wrote paragraphs about their favorite stuffed animals.
After teaching the younger grades about volcanoes, the 7th and 8th graders used various methods to cause their volcanoes to erupt. Some groups were more successful than others. 🙂

The Case for Phone-Free Schools
The research is clear: Smartphones undermine attention, learning, relationships, and belonging.
Safe Environment
Parents who wish to volunteer in the school need to complete safe environment training with the Diocese of Marquette. Attached to this newsletter you will find the instructions for safe environment training as well as the Safe Environment Policy Manual.
This year our 5th, 6th, and 7th graders will have the opportunity to go on an overnight faith and science camp at Fortune Lake with other Catholic schools from the Marquette Diocese. Parents are welcome to chaperone, but they must have safe environment training to do so. Any parent who wants to volunteer for recess duty, to sell at a bake sale, school store, or to chaperone a field trip in the future, must complete this training. Please read through the instruction and policy manual and contact the office if you have any questions.
