News from the Guidance Office
Attention Sophomores:
The Sophomore Class Counselors will host a Parent/Student Information Session on Wednesday evening, January 31, 2018, at 7pm in the CBW Auditorium. Topics to be discussed will include a brief review of PSAT results, Career Plan/Naviance, and the main topic, Program Planning. Parents and students are encouraged to attend.
Attention Juniors:
The Junior Class Counselors will host a Parent/Student Information Session on Tuesday evening, January 23, 2018 at 6:30 in the CBW Auditorium. Topics will include Program Planning for Senior Year, Standardized testing, and college planning. Parents and students are encouraged to attend.
Attention Seniors:
- Mid-Year Reports, containing your grades from courses completed in first semester, will automatically be sent to each college to which you have applied. You do not need to submit any forms requesting these to be sent out. Mid-Years will be sent as soon as possible after grades are posted to your transcripts (approximately February 9, 2018).
- Scholarships – The Guidance Office has posted many scholarships on Naviance, and more scholarships come in every day! In your Naviance account, click on the “Colleges Tab,” and then the “Scholarship List” link. You can sort the list by topical area, or sort by award amount or application due date. Be sure to follow all directions as indicated by the individual scholarship listings. Please visit the Scholarships page of the Guidance Website for links to Naviance and other scholarship search databases.
Program Planning
Tenth and Eleventh Grade Counselors are visiting 1st semester English classes over the next two weeks to review course selection for next year. (They will visit all 2nd semester English classes during the first week of the new semester.) The Student Portal for Course Registration opened on Friday, January 12th, and will remain open until Sunday, February 4th at 11pm. During the month of February, counselors will meet individually with students to review course selections and answer students’ questions. ASVAB Exam
The ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) will be administered at CB West on Monday, February 26, 2018. The ASVAB is a timed, multi-aptitude test which covers four areas – Arithmetic Reasoning, Word Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension and Mathematics Knowledge. Students who are considering a career in the military should consider taking this test, as it is used to determine qualification for enlistment in the military. It can also be used to assess vocational strengths and interest areas. Please see your counselor for more information, or to register for this exam on 2/26/18.
Peer Tutoring for West students:
The West Tutoring Academy is available to assist students who need extra help. Peer tutoring is available every Tuesday from 2:30pm to 3:30pm in the school library. During these times, any student who needs assistance with any course can come to the library and meet with a peer tutor. Students must arrive at 2:30pm, but can leave whenever they are finished with their work. If you have questions about this program, please call the Guidance Office at 267-893-2512.
Revised 2nd Marking Period and Final Exam Dates
Due to the recent school day cancellations, the decision has been made to extend the 2nd marking period by two days for secondary students. Therefore, the end of the 2nd marking period will now be Tuesday, January 30th. Friday, January 26th will remain an early dismissal day for students at the secondary level only.
The revised Final Exam schedule is as follows:
January 25th - World Language, Business and other Electives
January 29th – English and Science
January 30th – Math and Social Studies
2nd marking period grades will be available via the Parent Portal on February 9th at 8:00 AM.

MBIT Open House
NEWS FROM THE CLASS OF 2018:
It is time to order graduation caps and gowns! Seniors received order packets in Advisory during the Week of January 1. Completed order forms and payments will be collected from representatives from the cap and gown company on January 17 and 18 in the Cafeteria at all lunches. Additional packets are available in 12th Grade House Office.
ePrep
The Central Bucks School District offers a standardized testing prep system, ePrep, to all its students. This free web-based program helps students prepare for the PSAT, SAT and ACT. There are practice tests, test-taking tips, and instructional videos that explain how to do the problem(s) that may have been answered incorrectly during the practice session. All CB West sophomores have been registered with accounts. They should log in with their CBSD student email and the password eprep2017. Juniors and seniors, who are interested in accessing ePrep but do not have an account, should contact Ms. Graney in the CB West Library for an account.
Attention all Juniors and Sophomores!
PA mandate requires that every 11th grade student provide a copy of a physical, completed by a physician, to the School Nurse. The physical can be dated anytime from the first day of 10th grade through 11th grade. Please send in a copy of a physical as it is available. You can find an official form here: PHYSICAL FORM

GOOD NEWS ABOUT CB WEST STUDENTS
Boys Track and Field
Amongst 36 boys teams, West Boys placed in the top 3 in 5 of the 6 track events.
Ben Bunch, Nick Ferrentino, Jake Claricurzio, and Brian Baker ran the 2nd fastest time in the United States this season in the Distance Medley Relay. Their effort leads all Pennsylvania schools by over 10 seconds this season and is a school record.
Claricurzio, Ferrentino, Luke Fehrman, and Baker also set a new school record in the sprint medley relay en route to a PA#2 performance.
Fehrman, Carter Laatsch, Nick Gillespie, and Owen Shields posted a PA#5 performance in the 4x800 relay.
Katona, Alan Zlotin, Zane Williams, and Paul Nicholas posted a PA#10 4x400 relay.
Ryan Gunsiorowski, Ferrentino, Roman Katona, and Ian Infante posted a PA#11 4x200 relay.
