Dear Mary M. Knight Families and Community Members,

As we approach the holiday season, our OWLS continue to demonstrate their commitment to both academic excellence and athletic achievement. The energy and enthusiasm across our campus is inspiring as we move into the final weeks of 2024.

Our after-school tutoring program for grades 7-12 is in full swing, offering valuable academic support Tuesday through Thursday from 3:00-4:30 PM. This is an excellent opportunity for students to work with our dedicated teachers on assignments or test preparation before winter break.

Basketball season continues to build momentum with both our middle school and high school teams competing throughout the week. I encourage our community to come support our athletes, particularly at our home games - middle school versus Oakville on Monday and high school versus Naselle on Tuesday.

I want to remind everyone about our important MMK District Facility planning meeting this Thursday at 6:00 PM. Your input is valuable as we plan for our school's future, and I encourage all community members to attend.

Looking ahead, mark your calendars for our elementary winter concert on December 19th at 5:30 PM in the MMK gym. Our students are working hard to prepare a wonderful selection of winter holiday songs and dances for families and friends.

Don't forget that our monthly PTO meeting will be held this Wednesday at 3:30 PM in the library. Your participation helps strengthen our school community and supports our students' success.

The secondary (grades 7-12) are beginning after school tutoring for students needing additional help with school work such as missing assignments, studying for tests, or just needing a place to complete work with teacher support. Here are the details for secondary tutoring beginning after Thanksgiving break.

• Dates: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
• Time: 3:00 - 4:30 PM
• Teachers: Ms. Barratt, Ms. Bingham, Mr. Plaisance, Ms. Kemp.
• Transportation: Students must be able to transport self or have pick up ability by 4:30 PM

Saturday youth basketball begin on December 7th at Mary M. Knight. This is a great free opportunity for students in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade.

Last year, we had a theme of Above-The-Line and recognized student that were that demonstrated characteristics or actions of being Above-The-Line. This year we will continue our student recognition program as part of our PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) program with our positive referrals and weekly GRIT awards.

GRIT Awards - In the 2024-25 academic year, we're all about embracing 'Nurturing Resilience, Inspiring Excellence' as our guiding principle. We believe that having GRIT – Growth, Resilience, Intensity, and Tenacity – is key to creating a culture where challenges are seen as stepping stones to greatness. We want to foster a growth mindset in our students and ourselves, understanding that hard work and dedication can help us develop our abilities and intelligence. Student will be nominated weekly if they are demonstrating characteristics of GRIT. Student will receive a certificate and shared out.
