November - Month of the Military Family
We would like to honor the brave men and women who have served our country by displaying their photos in our main office throughout the month of November. If you or a loved one has served in the military, we invite you to send a photo that we can proudly include in our Veterans Day tribute.
Please email your photos to Ms. Revell (mailto:arevell@nps.k12.va.us). We are grateful for the sacrifices made by our veterans and look forward to recognizing their service in this special way.
World Kindness Day
On November 13th, we celebrated World Kindness Day at Blair Middle School with a series of kindness challenges for our students.
November 13 was World Kindness Day, so 7th grade students completed an “Acts of Kindness” challenge to focus on ways to be thankful for what they have and be kind to others.
Some of the ideas the students came up with include: giving another person a pencil, telling someone they are pretty, talking to someone if they are feeling down, giving someone a hug, sharing snacks, opening a door for others, avoiding drama, helping someone with their classwork, giving teachers a high five, picking up items that fall on the floor, keeping bad comments to yourself, and refusing to judge others.
After working in a group to come up with these ideas, students were asked to reflect on how the activity made them feel and how they might keep practicing kindness in the future.
It was inspiring to see how a little kindness can go a long way in building a stronger, more compassionate school community. Let’s continue to embrace kindness every day!
When I compliment and/or share kindness I feel good about myself. Kindness helps people and our world. Be the love in the world, not the hate.
Claire J.
I would feel good and happy to keep spreading kindness, but not that much different because I do these things every day. I love sharing with my friends and letting them know I care. When I give hugs, it makes me happy because I love hugs.
Armani R.
It makes me happy to improve someone’s day. I can help others and be kind every day. Whenever someone does something kind for me, I will share and do something kind for someone else, too.
Liam J.
When I complete one of these kind acts, I feel very good. It always makes me feel like I am needed.
Heaven M.
It makes me feel nice to make someone else feel good, and maybe the person would pass the kindness around. One way I can remember is to everyone an act of kindness.
Camari G.
To accomplish my goal, I would compliment my mom or one of my friends. Also, I would listen to others’ opinions to find out how to make things fair for everyone.
Ja’leel J.
How to practice kindness every day is to try to stay in a positive attitude and pass it on to others. Being in a positive mood can put someone else in a good mood, too. Also, putting a smile on someone else’s face can make you feel good, too.
Payton G.
I feel good when I do kind things for other people. I could use a sticky note to remember to say someone or do something kind each day.
Emily M.
When I do kind acts, I feel really good about myself afterwards. I don’t really remember to practice it, I just do it. I would say I am a kind person, so I just try to be myself.
Maleia Q.
It made me feel good to do these acts of kindness. It also made me feel good about myself and other people. I think more people should share kindness around the world.
Lucee L.
I feel glad that I can help in different ways. I like to make people’s days brighter. When I see a smile, it cheers me up in many ways.
Kennedy R.
I feel happy that I can help in different ways. It teaches me to be better and avoid rude comments. When I see a smile on someone’s face, it cheers me up.
Zoey W.
It was very easy helping and being kind to others. I finished all my acts of kindness, and I even did more that weren’t on my list. I gave my friend a hug when she was sad. I felt amazing while doing these kind acts.
De’Zyah B.
Anytime I complete any of these acts, I feel good. I feel nice whenever I compliment somebody. I usually hold the door for people, so that is normal for me.
Natalee D.
At Blair Middle School, we recognize students who exemplify those character traits our school reinforces through PBIS - Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports. Different students are nominated each week and those that are selected from each grade level receive a certificate and goodie bag with various items that the students would enjoy. The items on this list will help Blair provide incentives for good behavior.
