Sawnee Elementary
May 2024
A Note from Mrs. Davis
Dear Sawnee Families,
It's hard to believe May is here. This has been an amazing year filled with many fun activities with many more to come this month! We need volunteers for Field Day, so please take a moment to check out the information from Coach McCormick and Coach Poss included in this newsletter. When you are on campus, be sure to stop by both Lost & Founds to locate any items that have accumulated this spring. We would love for them to find their homes before the end of the year.
As we close out the 2023-2024 school year, we are looking for ways to improve for the 2024-2025 school year. We are seeking feedback about our Chief Leader Award Ceremony in order to increase attendance for our students. If your child has received a Chief Leader Award in the past, please take a moment to complete this survey to help us plan for either morning or evening.
In addition, PTO is looking for 2 more board members. If you or you know of someone who would be interested in joining the team, please contact our PTO at sawneeptoboard@gmail.com. Details and information are found in this newsletter in the PTO section.
We will be communicating upcoming Sawnee Summer Events on our website and social media outlets. Be sure to follow us to stay up to date. We love the partnership that is our Sawnee Family!
As always, if you have any questions, concerns, or just want to give feedback, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. It is a pleasure to work with all of our families.
Sincerely,
Kimberly Davis
Principal

Field Day
Once we receive our field day t-shirts we will have a very limited amount of extras that we will be able to sell. They will be sold on a first come first serve basis. If you would like to purchase one of the extra t-shirts please fill out this form. Do NOT send in payment. We will contact you if we are able to fulfill your request. Thank you.
Cafeteria Charges
Please read this important message from Todd McClelland about the end of year meal charges.
Reminder to FCS Families: Please make sure that for the last month of school your child has adequate funds available in MyPaymentsPlus or sufficient cash/check is sent in to cover their meal purchases. Starting Monday, May 6 through the end of the school year, students without adequate funds will receive a courtesy snack. Also, any families with negative cafeteria balances must deposit funds before the school year ends. Students who graduate or withdraw and have funds left in their meal accounts should visit https://www.forsyth.k12.ga.us/page/396 to close out their accounts.

Watch DOGS
We are excited to continue our Watch DOGS program. Whether you are a dad, granddad, uncle, older brother, or community member, we would love to have you spend the day with us!
Please review the available slots below and click on the button to sign up for the day you can volunteer. Feel free to sign up for an AM, PM, or both times. If you are joining us for a half day, the PM times for K-2 would be best and the AM times for 3-5 would be best. You will have an opportunity to help in carline, be on the morning school news, and travel from class to class as a great role model for the day. You'll get to help teachers, play games, read stories, have lunch with your child and see your child in action with learning!
Don't have time for the full or half day? Come join us anytime in the carline starting at 7:50. Please email Michael Vorick to let him know which days you would like to join.
Thank you in advance!
Please reach out to Michael Vorick ( f39414@forsyth.k12.ga.us ) with any questions.

Harvest of the Month
Blueberries
Blueberries are often called a "superfood". This small but mighty berry is loaded with nutrients. Blueberries are also believed to have one of the highest antioxidant levels of all the common fruits and vegetables. In one cup of blueberries you will get 3.6 grams of fiber, 16% of your daily value of Vitamin C, 24% of your daily value of Vitamin K, and 22% of your daily value of manganese. They are so tasty and convenient that many people consider them their favorite fruit.
Clinic News
**Just a reminder- Field Day is right around the corner. Sunscreen is considered a medication, so please apply in the morning before school. We will not be able to apply unless the sunscreen is brought to us by a parent/guardian and a medication form is signed.
**It’s hard to believe, but it is about time for end of school medication pickup. If your child has medication in the clinic, please pick it up by 2pm on May 23rd. Any medication left in the clinic will be disposed of. Also, keep in mind that Care Plans signed by physicians need to be resubmitted yearly at the start of the school year. Summer is a great time to request the Care Plans from your pediatricians. It has been a pleasure taking care of your children and we wish everyone a happy and safe summer!!

Finding Your Media Balance
Media balance is using media in a healthy way that is balanced with other activities, such as hanging out with family and friends, sports, art, and other hobbies. As a family, watch the video about how to monitor your habits with video games, TV shows, apps, etc. What does healthy media balance look like for your family? Make a list of activities, both online and offline, that you would like to do on a given day or week.
