Celebrating Black History Month
February 2025
Honoring Carter G. Woodson: The Father of Black History Month
As we celebrate Black History Month, we recognize the visionary who made it all possible—Dr. Carter G. Woodson. Known as the "Father of Black History," Woodson dedicated his life to ensuring that the contributions of Black Americans were recognized, studied, and celebrated.
In 1926, he established Negro History Week, which later evolved into Black History Month. His goal was not only to highlight achievements but to inspire future generations by showcasing the resilience, excellence, and leadership of Black individuals throughout history.
At Grace Fort Gouldsby Scholarship Foundation (GFGSF), we continue Woodson’s legacy by supporting the next generation of Black leaders. Through education and opportunity, we empower students to build on the foundation he laid.
Coming Soon: Our 2024-2025 Scholarship Recipients!
Black History Month is a time for reflection, celebration, and looking ahead. While we honor the past, we’re also excited about the future—next month, we will unveil the recipients of our 2024 scholarships!
GFGSF has a long-standing commitment to providing financial assistance and support to students from diverse races, creeds, and walks of life. Our scholarship program is designed to uplift individuals who are passionate about becoming positive change agents within their communities and professions.
We are inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who said, "what are you doing for others?". As an organization, we believe that education serves as the key to unlocking the potential for change, not only for the individual but for society as a whole. Dr. King also stated, "the function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character-that is the goal of true education." These words guide our mission as we continue to support future leaders, knowing that education and character will shape a brighter, more just tomorrow.
Stay tuned as we introduce our newest recipients and share their inspiring journeys. Thank you to our donors who help our future leaders in their pursuit of higher education. Your continued support makes education accessible and impactful.
The annual scholarship is awarded to a meritorious high school graduate to assist in furthering his/her education. The recipients of the award exhibit excellence in leadership and scholarship. Donations are tax deductible and go directly into the Scholarship Foundation. The experience, energy and dedication that Grace Fort Gouldsby brought to the field of education greatly enriched our children, our community, and our overall quality of life, and the Scholarship Foundation is one way of continuing her life-long commitment to quality education and quality life.
