Tanglen Update

Hoping to show your Tanglen Pride with spiritwear? This is a website that many staff members and families have used over the past few years with great success. I know I just ordered a new sweatshirt and t-shirt and they fit great and arrived in a timely manner. Plus, they currently have everything on sale to start the year off right! Have fun exploring the site and show your Tanglen Pride!

NEW THIS YEAR: All requests for guest/friend bus passes must be pre-approved by the Transportation Department. With increasingly full vehicles, transportation must first ensure there is appropriate room for an extra scholar.

Please request bus pass from the Tanglen office, at least one day before the desired ride. It is NOT guaranteed there will be space on the bus.

*Remember that if you need to park and go into the school and it is close to dismissal, park in the parking lot and not in the loop. It is very important for the driver to stay in their vehicle in the loop so that we can keep things running smoothly.

*Thanks for your patience and grace with other Tanglen families in the loop. I guarantee you that if we all follow the tips listed on the pdf below with fidelity, things will run very smoothly.

This morning we held our first fire drill of the year. The students were extremely quiet and respectful! We are very proud of how seriously they take our drills. Please make sure and praise your Tanglen Tigers at home for modeling dependability, teamwork, integrity, common sense, social intelligence, problem solving, curiosity, and kindness during our first fire drill! One of the things that sets Tanglen apart from other schools is our focus on Character Strengths. Over the past few years, we have noticed the impact of our focus on character strengths in many positive ways. This year, Hopkins Public Schools has adopted a new Social-Emotional Learning curriculum called PurposeFull People. One of the things the curriculum does well is tying character development into their lessons.

In order to best align with PurposeFull People and their scope and sequence of lessons, we have tweaked when we talk about our character strengths at Tanglen. Below is a copy of our two-year cycle of focus. I encourage you to print off the flyer below and post the list on your refrigerator. Talk about the character strengths often with your children, point out when YOU are using the strengths and when you have noticed your child modeling the strengths as well. Time invested now will pay off many benefits in the future.
