The Puma Paw
A Pinebrook community information source
February 14, 2025
Hello Puma Families,
The parties were tremendous! The memories of games, cards, and treats are what the day is about in Elementary school. At the end of the day, Mrs. Higgins, our beloved librarian, burst open the Main Office doors and exclaimed, "Every day should be Valentine's Day at Pinebrook!" We couldn't agree more, Mrs. Higgins. Thank you to every parent who made the day special for our school. A perfect way to end kindness week!

Pumas That Pounce
Our students have set outstanding examples of our latest habit, "Think Win-Win!" Classmates voted for who understood how to find a solution for everyone involved. Way to go! Here are the Habit Heroes for Think Win-Win: Aman W., Eyan B., Zayd S., Hannah P., Lucas C., Sarah B., Zaire N., Serenity B., Alice V., Lachlyn D., Jennifer P., Sarthak K., Kendrix A., Rhea D., Brianna F., Baheer A., Ashi K., Blessing M., Niko M., Begum T., Nixon C., Addison D., Sai S., Blaine M., Shania B., Vinny M., Shaheer A., Sia L., Bella M., Kayla C.
Kudos to the fourth-grade teacher, Mrs. Davis, and the students in her class! I received an email about how the culture and climate created in Ms. Davis' class have resonated throughout the neighborhood and turned the snow day into a day of friendship as they shoved the driveways of others during the recent weather. It was an incredible example of how the work we aim for connected to the community. The parent told me, "I want to be a student at Pinebrook, Mr. Thiessen!" Way to go, Ms. Davis, her kiddos, and the neighbors who enjoyed and helped!
If there is someone that you feel we need to celebrate in our community, please email Paul Thiessen about your person.

Partners In Parenting
Check out our feature Partners in Parenting. We'll gather tips and tricks that you can use at home. Let us know if you have any questions!
Here's our parenting tip for today -
Let them do it - a big part of children's development is learning how to do things for and by themselves. Letting children learn through doing is a key part of growing and improving everyday skills necessary for success - even if it takes much longer to get something done. In the long run, it will cut down on task time because they can do tasks independently while working on their own tasks. Let them make their beds even though the sheets are crooked or halfway falling off. Let them make their sandwich even if the kitchen is messy afterward. Let them brush their hair even if it sticks up everywhere. They learn through practice and develop confidence in themselves and their abilities because they were allowed to do it, mistakes and all.

Instructional Insights! - Author Visit Erin Teagan!
Our Pinebrook students had the incredible opportunity to participate in an author visit with Erin Teagan, an author whose passion for both science and storytelling inspired everyone in attendance.
During her visit, Ms. Teagan shared her unique path from the laboratory to the literary world, offering our students an inspiring perspective on balancing hard work, curiosity, and creativity.
The student we wowed with examining common items through the lens of a microscope, were reminded of the importance of being good researchers, and were provided the opportunity to hold bubbles created from dry ice.
It was an unforgettable experience that will surely inspire many of our young writers, thinkers, and future scientists to keep chasing their dreams.

School Information
Remember, when you come to school...
- When you come to school, it's essential to be in the habit of three things:
- Make an appointment
- Have your ID;
- Have your phone, especially if you are tardy, picking up, or returning a child to school, as we use an electronic form to record the child's return. You will access the form via a QR code scanned by your phone.
