Jo's Sport Talk
Term 1 has been very busy with a significant focus on swimming. Our annual TPS Swimming Sports made the first splash back in February, with all middle and senior students participating in the event, opting to either partake in fun activities in the small pool, or the more competitive races. Whakamihi to our overall place getters:
Year 3 Girls: 1st Eliza S, 2nd Pippa V, 3rd Malia B
Year 3 Boys: 1st Billy M, 2nd Jaxon T, 3rd Blake C
Year 4 Girls: 1st Mollie H, 2nd Cora H, 3rd Klara A
Year 4 Boys: 1st Jack P, 2nd Zane W, 3rd Harry S
Year 5 Girls: 1st Eloise K, 2nd Tatum M, 3rd Ava W
Year 5 Boys: 1st Daniel B, 2nd Cian W, 3rd Cooper G
Year 6 Girls: 1st Katalaina S, 2nd Harriet S, 3rd Maya R
Year 6 Boys: 1st Harry P, 2nd Jackson H, 3rd Theo A
These senior children, plus others, then represented TPS at the South Cluster Swimming Sports, competing against the best swimmers from St Mary's, Maungatapu, Selwyn Ridge and Welcome Bay Primary Schools. The highlight of this event was definitely the Girls Relay. For almost the entirety of the race, the girls sat in second place, a quarter of a length behind St Mary's, until the final leg where a determined Enjun swam incredibly fast snatching 1st place in the final couple of metres. What a race!
Whakamihi to the following swimmers who placed in their respective events and will now compete at the WBOP Swimming Championships next week at Baywave. Good Luck!

TPS has also participated in two exciting inter-school sports events in Term 1. In the beginning of March, two teams travelled to the Bay Oval to partake in the WBOP Cricket Supersmash Festival. The festival prioritises skill development and enjoyment, so follows a modified game format, but as always, there is an element of competitiveness! Both teams performed well, only dropping one game between them.
The following week, TPS participated in the infamous Top Schools event, which was held for a second time at Omokoroa No 1 School. In the weeks prior to the event, our team trained 'the best we could', as to bring in a hint of unpredictability, new events were announced just a few days before, and rule changes were made on the day. The team had a blast! We performed particularly well in the 'Thread the Needle' finishing in 2nd place, but the definite favourite was the thrilling downhill 'Leaky Bucket'. Ka mau te wehi to all of our teams!
Term 1 Summer Sports
Term 1 sports are now almost complete (just one game left for our volleyball teams this Friday). So, I would like to take the time to thank all parents and older siblings who coached, managed and umpired our summer sports teams, without your generosity it would not be possible to enter TPS teams into these sports.
A friendly reminder, that all sports uniforms and gear bags must be returned to the school office by the end of next week.
