The Spencer Scoop
Spencer Elementary September 13, 2024
Note From the Principal
Hello Roadrunner Families!
We have had a great week at Spencer! We are getting settled, a little tired, but building some great connections with each other. We are thankful to still be enjoying the nice weather! Remember that next week is Pink Week! We have many things going on to support the community and, of course, we love wearing the gear all week.
I hope you are all able to rest and relax together this weekend and hopefully catch the Lions game on Sunday! It's a pretty exciting time to be a Lions fan!!

News from the Art Room:
The Art Room is a happy place as we revisit and/or introduce new procedures and materials. Our school is participating in a fundraiser with Art to Remember that gives you the opportunity to purchase keepsake items customized with your child’s artwork. They make fabulous holiday gifts!
Your student(s) have just started their creations, so please stay tuned for their individual link to order personalized items in early November!

Counselor's Corner
Hello from your Spencer Elementary School Counselor! I am so excited to welcome you all back for another amazing year! I am so excited to be full time at Spencer this year to better support our students and families. I will be available for classroom lessons, small group activities, and individual support for our students. This month's classroom lessons will focus on fostering friendships and building connections with our peers as we focus on Solidarity as a district. The Elementary Counseling Team also has the BAS Elementary Counseling website for ideas and resources to be used at home throughout the school year with more updates to come! Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns that you may have, and I will do my best to support your child. PINK WEEK
Hello, amazing Spencer families! Next week is Pink Week, which is put on by BHS Leadership students, to raise money for the Trinity Cancer Center in Brighton. There are several events taking place throughout the week to raise awareness and funds for such an important cause. (see flyers below for more info) Here at Spencer, we'll be holding a "Coins For a Cure" coin drive to help with their efforts! In years past, we've done coin wars. But this year, we're switching it up! Instead of competing, our Spencer community will be working TOGETHER to hit a school goal of $2,500! Once we hit that goal, PTO will reward our Roadrunners with a FREE POPCORN FRIDAY at the end of September! Students are also encouraged to wear pink on Friday leading up to the big Varsity Pink Out game on Friday night.
ROADRUNNER RUN
Our 12th Annual Roadrunner Run will be held in the afternoon on Friday, October 4th. It's one of our biggest school fundraisers of the year, and it is a lot of fun for the kids! Fundraising paperwork went home this week with students. So please check that out and reach out with any questions! Proceeds from this event will go towards a new playground area for our students, so we're very excited for the run to be a HUGE success! Our goal is $23,000. Remember, any student who registers online and creates a student webpage will receive a free pedometer!
We have a ton of Roadrunner Run volunteer opportunities, and we'd love for you to join us! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0C48A4A729A6FB6-51378604-12th
PLEASE NOTE: This event is taking place during the school day. So, whether you sign up for a volunteer spot or just want to come and cheer the kids on, YOU MUST HAVE A CURRENT BACKGROUND FORM on file to attend. Volunteer Background Form can be found here: http://www.applitrack.com/brightonk12/StartForm.aspx?id=3993825
STUDENT SHIRTS
Just a note that student and staff shirt orders have been submitted to our vendor, and we expect to send shirts home with students no later than Tuesday, October 1. Thank you to everyone for getting your sizes in so quickly this year!

They have also added a long sleeved option for you to choose from AND have added an additional Spencer design as well! https://kensingtonvalleyvarsity.com/spencer_elementary_2024/shop/home KVV has also opened an online Brave Like Brooklynn store if you'd like to purchase merchandise to support the wonderful Bridson family. (A portion of each order goes directly to the family to help with medical costs and more) https://kensingtonvalleyvarsity.com/brave_like_brooklynn/shop/home

Just In Case Clothes
Parents - Please make sure you pack a change of clothes (that are weather appropriate) in your child's backpack EVERY DAY. This is for ALL students, grades JK-4th, you never know when your student may have a nosebleed, or loose a tooth, or spill food/milk on their shirt, or find a mud puddle outside, or have a bathroom accident. If your student keeps a change of clothing in their backpack, then we can take care of it here, otherwise we need you to bring up a change of clothes. Thank you for your cooperation.
New for the 2024/2025 School Year
QR Code
Thank you for your patience as we get into the habit of using our new QR Code System for signing students in and out. For your convenience, a link to the codes is below and you can save these in your phone so you won't have to scan the QR code each time. Our top priority is to keep students safe, and in an effort to maximize security and minimize traffic in our lobby where students frequently pass through at any given time during the course of a school day, we are confident that the QR Code System helps us to achieve this goal.
Student Sign Out
After you have signed out your student(s), we ask that you wait on the bench outside and have your ID ready (Note there is no covering over the bench at the moment so bring an umbrella if it is raining). We have added a new question to the Sign Out Form (What time would you like to pick up your child/ren?) This way you can sign your student out to be in the lobby at a certain time and if all goes as it should, it will maximize the convenience for you.
Here are the QR Links to save to your phone for quick reference.
Drop Off Cabinet
You will find the Drop Off Cabinet (pictured below) outside Door #2 near the main entrance to the school. Here you will put those forgotten items that your student may need. Simply fill out the small slip of paper with the student's name and teacher, and a staff member will deliver the item to your student.
Water Bottles
Please remember to send your child to school each day with a refillable water bottle with their name on it. Spencer has water refilling stations throughout the building and we encourage students to drink water throughout the day.
