Dear Midlands STEM Families,
Welcome to the 2nd Quarter of the 2024-2025 school year! The month of November brings many activities and events. Please be sure to read through this monthly family newsletter for class/teacher updates, important announcements, and upcoming events. We also encourage you to follow us on Facebook for instant updates related to day to day school reminders.
Thank you for your partnership and your contribution to your student's success! We value a strong home and school relationship and welcome your questions and feedback at all times. Please be sure to keep open communication with your children's teacher through phone, email, or their parent communication tool (Google Classroom, Remind, etc). By working as a team, the pathway to student success is limitless!

Upper Elementary Updates
3rd-5th Grades
3rd News:
Students will be learning about multiplication and division in math and Narrative Writing in ELA. There will be a field trip to Cease Farms coming up. The class has adopted a cow to sponsor down in Bowman, SC. Her name is Zoe.
4th News:
Students will be learning about Persuasive/Argumentative Writing in ELA and factors, multiples and multiplication in Math. In Science, students will be learning about Energy and Circuits and in Social Studies students will be finishing up early Colonial Life in America.
Students have been assigned a "Shoe-box" Diorama project from The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. This project is due on November 12th.
5th News:
Students will be learning multiplying and dividing decimals in Math and Persuasive/Argumentative Writing in ELA. They will be learning about Earth's Systems in Science and finishing up Western Expansion in Social Studies.
Students have been assigned a "Shoe-box" Diorama project from The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. This project is due on November 12th.
Middle School Updates
6th-8th Grades
Social Studies
8th grade will be talking about the American revolution. I plan to have a local reenactment group come in and explain the clothing, equipment, ect.
7th Grade is transitioning to South America where they will be learning about culture and geography.
6th Grade will be working on ancient China, Indonesia, and Japan.
ELA
8th grade are starting the poetry section and are learning how to evaluate poems, writing poems
7th grade is reading the book, "Where the Red Ferns Grow"
6th Grade will be reading the book, "A Wrinkle in Time"
7th Grade Science
Topic: Energy
November, we will focus on kinetic and potential energy, emphasizing the descriptive relationships between kinetic energy and mass,
and separately between kinetic energy and speed. Students will develop a model to demonstrate how changes in the arrangement of
objects interacting at a distance impact the amount of potential energy stored in the system.
6th & 8th grade Science
6th Grade Is working on a Heat Transfer Unit
8th Grade is working on Electricity and Magnetism Unit
Chemistry is working on the Periodic Table and Periodic Law
6th-8th Math
6th-Ratios and Proportional Relationships
7th & 8th grade- X & Y Intercepts, Slope, Solving & Graphing Equations

Athletics Updates
Boys and Girls Basketball will begin Monday November 4th. All students must have a completed physical to try out.

Cross Country Update
Midlands STEM Boys Cross Country Team qualified for the SCHSL State Meet which will be held Saturday 11/06 at Fort Jackson in Columbia SC. Midlands STEM will be running with the A Division at 1pm.
Visual & Performing Arts Updates
7th Grade Winter Concert
The 7th Grade Winter Choral Concert will be held on Tuesday, December 17th at 5:00pm. More details to come from Mrs. Salter!
CIE Holiday Card Contest!
One of our very own Mavericks has a chance to be selected for the Charter Institute at Erskine's 2024 Holiday Card Designer! Please see Mrs. Campbell for additional information!
Assembly Date and Times
Please join us as we celebrate our Mavericks! We will be recognizing our A Honor Roll, A/B Honor Roll, as well as students representing our 3 R's! Stay tuned for additional information, but please mark your calendars. Each assembly will take place in our cafeteria on Friday, Nov. 22nd:
