PICTURES AND NEWS
RENAISSSANCE (and USA) RACE CAR SCIENCE PROJECT
Both Renaissance and USA are using a scientific approach to develop wooden race cars. Students have been given wooden blocks to sculpt into car shapes for aerodynamic efficiency, a set of standard wheels, and access to a variety of weights (metal washers or actual measuring weights) to improve the speed and distance the cars will travel. The cars are limited to a pre-determined maximal weight. Students have a chance to modify their cars multiple times as they test their car's performance against a standard block car. Eventually they will learn through observations and experimentation, what matters most, shape, mass or something else, when trying to better the standard car or those of their peers.

RECRUITING THE NEXT GENERATION OF MUSICIANS
On Tuesday, June 4th the strings orchestra and 7/8 Band group met with 4th graders from each learning community to ask if they would be interested in becoming musicians next year. Fourth graders heard the band and orchestral students play their best music inches. While listening, they could see the instruments being played just inches away and imagine themselves doing the same in the upcoming years.
PLANNING FOR CONVOCATION
As we approach the end of the year, it is hard to imagine thinking about the upcoming school year of 2024/2025. However, some staff and students are doing just that as they plan for convocation, the opening event and meeting of all the school district staff in late August 2024. For many years now, a group of students from all the district schools have worked with drama staff to craft an inspiring show for the employees of the Maple Run Unified School District. The performances have always been magical and it takes intense work over the summer to make them happen. The same kind of creative effort will take place this year.
BFA drama teacher, Susan Palmer, and superintendent, Bill Kimball, launched the students into the planning process for this year's program.

FLAG RETIREMENT CEREMONY
June 14th, 10:00 am
Mt. Calvary Cemetery
Team USA in conjunction with the VFW and American Legion will be co-hosting a flag retirement ceremony. We have numerous boxes of old flags that have been prepared by students for a proper retirement. This is a solemn and dignified event. Ceremonies to retire a flag can differ from each other. The short ceremony will include a few words shared by the veterans, pledge of allegiance, taps, and an honor guard with a three rifle volley. The rifles will be fired as a part of the ceremony. There will be a fire onsite to dispose of the flags. The ashes will be buried the following day.
Example of a ceremony - https://youtu.be/tdHXR0PYCuY
Flags needing to be retired can be dropped off at Team USA.
