School-Community Highlights for April, 2024
The mission of McMillan Middle is to academically challenge students and to promote student ownership of learning in a safe, diverse, and respectful environment.
Principal Message
Greetings McMillan Families,
We are kicking off 4th quarter and students are working hard, staying active and planning for high school and summer/future endeavors. NSCAS Testing starts this next week on April 8, going through the month for ELA, Math, and Science. Please note:
Things to talk about at home before we test:
**Why we test – it ties our daily classwork to real life, and tests occur all through life!
**Why we need to do our very best – our schools status, teachers, schedule and resources hinge on test success!
What students can do to be their best:
**Have students attend all of the school day and arrive on time at 7:40 AM each day.
**Ensure students have their iPad and charger and brings these to school. Make ensure iPads have been charged the night before. iPad checks will occur at school, and communication to families will occur.
**Make sure students get enough sleep on the night before a test.
**Cell Phones cannot be used or out or touched while testing is happening. These will not be on their desk or pocket as these are security breaches on the test.
**Encourage students to do their best (stand tall) and to make themselves and us #MonarchProud!
We look forward to warmer weather, spring sports/activities and all the celebratory events in the coming weeks and final months of the school year. Encourage students to get involved, stay engaged in class and finish strong.
Please read the newsletter carefully to get all the updates about upcoming events for McMillan. As always, we thank you for your continued support and involvement in the McMillan Community. If you have any questions, please call us 531-299-2440.
Very Respectfully,
Dr. Walters - Proud Principal at McMillan

Spring Sports Information/Updates
Season 3 sports ended on a high note!
Coach Oberg and Coach Wright did an amazing job with girls basketball. McMillan brought 5 girls to compete in the last game. With no bench, our girls played the entire game, and had a last second shot to nearly escape with a W, just coming up short in the end. Our team showed lots of heart and courage really giving it their all.
The Mighty Monarchs from McMillan swim saved some of their best for last. The entire swim team finished 8th in the City Swim meet. All of the swimmers finished with many personal bests on their events. Way to go Monarchs!
Last but not least, Wrestling had a fantastic year! Coach Jay, Mohrbutter, Jones, and Riva ended the year on a high note! Our Girls Wrestling team finished the year as Runner Up for City, and the Boys were able to finish as City Champions! This was in addition to winning the Marisett Invite!
During April, 6th grade boys and girls will have an opportunity to participate in Basketball Skills Camp with Mr. Oberg with McMillan, Monroe, and Nathan Hale. Students were given permission forms to participate during the school day on 4/4 and can contact Mr. Curran to participate for permission or return the form. Academic and behavior standards are in place for participation. What a great opportunity!
We love celebrating our athletes! We look to build off of this and end the year with Boys and Girls Soccer and Track and Field! GO MONARCHS!!!!
