Thomas Jefferson Performance on April 21
Isle of Wight County Schools' students are invited to a special event this Sunday, April 21, at Smithfield High School. The Isle of Wight County Historical Society (IWCHS) is excited to host an afternoon with Thomas Jefferson, as portrayed by the renowned Clay Jenkinson. Jenkinson is a humanities scholar, author, and social commentator, devoting most of his career to public humanities programs. As one of the nation’s leading interpreters of Thomas Jefferson and other historical figures, he has performed before Supreme Court justices, presidents, eighteen state legislatures, and countless public, corporate and student audiences. He has dedicated the better part of his life to researching the historical characters he portrays and emphasizing education with audience participation to enhance the learning and entertainment experience.
Tickets for the general public are $25, but IWCS students and an accompanying adult can attend for FREE! Doors open at 2:00pm. The program runs from 3:00pm to 4:00pm followed by a Question and Answer session.
There are only 200 seats for students and their guests, so we kindly ask that you please Register to Attend the Performance to ensure adequate seating for all.
For more information about the event, please visit the IWCHS website at https://app.arts-people.com/index.php?ticketing=iwchs.

2024-2025 School Calendar and a Snow Day in May
At the March 14 School Board meeting, the board voted to approve a Snow Day in May!
IWCS has time built into the calendar to allow for missed days due to weather or unforeseen circumstances. IWCS has missed very little time this year and, as such, the Board elected to make May 24, the Friday before Memorial Day, a student and staff holiday. The hope is this time will allow students and staff to recharge before entering the final stretch of the school year.
In addition, the School Board approved the 2024-2025 School Calendar. A copy of the calendar is available on the division's website at https://www.iwcs.k12.va.us/apps/pages/school_calendar
