Notes & Updates
Gearing Up With Winter Gear
Last week, we shared with students that it is time to start bringing winter gear. We appreciate your support with the following:
- This coming week looks like it might still be on the milder side so use your discretion, but after fall break, you should plan on sending your child to school each day with hat/gloves/coat and snowpants/boots.
- No need to wear snowpants/boots to school, unless you'd like to for warmth (be sure to bring shoes to change into). If snowpants/boots don't fit in backpack, a shopping bag/reusable bag works just fine to carry to school and store in cubby.
- If students do not bring snowpants/boots, they will need to have fun on the blacktop zone at recess, as snowpants/boots are required for the playground/field zones.
- If you are working on having your child build independence and they do not remember to bring their snowpants/boots to school, it is totally fine to let them go the day without you needing to bring them in for them. We usually find that after a time or two of being a little more chilly now (before it gets TOO cold later on), and not getting to play in all three recess zones is a natural consequence to helping them remember next time.
- We do not supply snowpants/boots for students who forget theirs; we have a very limited number on hand for students that might have theirs get spills/damaged/etc. during the day
- If your family needs assistance acquiring winter gear, please contact School Social Worker Amber Booth at bootha@mcfsd.org
- Children should come to school with winter gear they can put on independently. Before purchasing items, please make sure your child can zip zippers, button buttons, pull on gloves/mittens/hat, etc.
- For safety reasons, we prefer students do not wear scarves; fleece neck warmers (like the example linked) are a great alternative
- Please label ALL items with first initial and last name of your child; we have so many items end up in our lost and found each year to an estimated cost in the thousands of dollars worth of items that go unclaimed throughout the year
- As much as you can, look for waterproof winter gear, especially gloves/mittens, because your child is likely to get cold and wet as they play in the snow
No Primary Press Next Week
Due to our short week this week followed by fall break, there will be no Primary Press on 12/1.

Food Allergies
Does your child have a food allergy? Reminder, if they take hot lunch please visit NutriSlice for menu/ingredient information. Menus are subject to change based on product availability but families will be notified in advance. Please reach out to School Nutrition with any questions.
If your child has a Life Threatening Food Allergy and EpiPen Prescription please send their Epipen to school. This can be kept in the health office or if your student is in grades 6-12, they can self carry it. All prescription medications, including emergency medicine, must have an MD order and Parent Signature, even if self-carrying. Consent forms are required every year and are available here, in the health office and on the District website. An Emergency Health Plan is then created and shared with all staff, including the Kitchen staff. Please reach out to Health Services with questions.
Medical Attendance
Is your student missing school due to illness, injury or health-related appointments? Providing a medical note or appointment card will prevent these types of absences as counting towards your students' allotted 10 days of excused absences for the school year. Please reach out to School Nurse, Stephanie Peplinski at PeplinS@mcfsd.org or cepsattendance@mcfsd.org if you have additional questions about this process. You can also find more information about absences and attendance in the CEPS parent handbook located on the school website.
KF & 2nd Grade Vision Referrals
This past week the Lions Club trained vision screeners in collaboration with Health Services conducted vision screenings on all Kindergarten and 2nd grade students for vision difficulties. Families of students who did not pass will be emailed a vision referral. Please review the information provided in the email and let health services know if you have any questions. Resources for obtaining vision exams & glasses are available on the MSD website or reach out to District Nurse, Stephanie Peplinski at Peplins@mcfsd.org.

School and District Report Cards
On November 19, DPI issued a District Report Card for our district and for each district in Wisconsin in addition to a School Report Card for each school. As a District we “Exceed Expectations” and Waubesa Intermediate School, Indian Mound Middle School, and McFarland High School school each earned a rating of “Exceeds Expectations” this year as well. Conrad Elvehjem Primary School received a rating of “Satisfactory Progress” under alternate accountability, because grades EC-2 do not participate in state testing. All report cards are available online at http://dpi.wi.gov/accountability/report-cards. Please see this letter for additional information.
