Distress Tolerance - Handling Rough Emotions
Let's chat about Distress Tolerance:
Distress tolerance is about handling tough emotions or situations. It means staying calm, making good choices, and bouncing back from hard times. It helps you deal with challenges, especially during the school year.Remember that developing distress tolerance is important for managing emotions and overcoming challenges, especially during the school year. Use healthy coping skills like deep breathing, mindfulness, seeking support from trusted adults, spending time in fresh air, getting sunshine, staying hydrated, stretching, laughing, and more. Asking for help is okay, and every challenge you overcome makes you stronger.Three top tips for building distress tolerance:
1. Practice deep breathing and mindfulness techniques to stay calm during tough times.
2. Seek support from trusted adults or friends when facing challenges.
3. Remember that it's okay to ask for help—it's a sign of strength, not weakness.
Please be advised: When trying to handle tough feelings, focus on staying safe first. If things feel too hard, ask for help from a grown-up you trust or a mental health professional. These tricks can help, but they're not the same as getting real help for safety concerns. Always stay safe and ask for help if you need it.
BHMS Reach for the Heights Fundraiser
We are excited for Broomfield Heights Middle School’s only fundraiser of the year, “Reach for the Heights.” Between now and Spring Break we are asking our families and community members to make a donation to BHMS, which will be distributed to directly benefit students!
Family Assignment Planner
Hello families, this year we are excited to announce our Assignment Planner that will be visible to families. Please open the link and look for your student's teachers by grade level. Teachers will update important dates and due dates on this document, or refer you to where to go to find that information. Please let us know if you have any questions, and we hope you will find this tool useful for helping your students stay on top of their assignments.
Sincerely,
Bryan Graham
Assistant Principal
Exciting STEM Opportunity
Google.org and FIRST Robotics are hosting a free workshop at Google Boulder September 21-22. We have space for 100 girls in grades 6-8 and we would love your help filling the room!
The girls will work in groups to design, build, and program LEGO robots to complete different challenges. We will also have Google engineers volunteering and working with the girls to share more about what a career in STEM could look like.
