USD 490 receives national recognition for elementary STEM program
El Dorado Public Schools USD 490 announced today that all three USD 490 elementary schools have been recognized as a 2023-24 Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Distinguished School. This honor is given to a select number of elementary schools across the U.S. for providing broad access to transformative learning experiences for students through PLTW Launch, an elementary STEM curriculum.

EHS students inducted into National Honor Society
New members were inducted into the El Dorado High School’s chapter of National Honor Society during the NHS Induction Ceremony on May 5.
New members: Madison Busby, Hannah Gantz, Jaxson Guthrie, Alawna Herrman, Kasea Hicks, Addison Hull, Madeline Johnson, Erick Lopez, Taidhgin Mora-Bruce, Tanner Riddle, and Kelci Stewart.
Blackmore recognized as a Capturing Kids' Hearts National Showcase School

Patriot League Track
The El Dorado Middle School track team competed at the Patriot League meet in McPherson on May 7, 2024. The seventh grade girls and eighth grade boys and girls teams placed sixth in their respective categories. Overall, the boys and girls teams each placed seventh in the league.

EHS Boys Tennis
Regionals:
Five El Dorado High School boys tennis players qualified to compete at state during regionals in McPherson on May 3, 2024. Naman Bhatt and Reece Knight placed fifth in doubles. Theron Mays and Lane Eck placed sixth in doubles. Payton Wade placed sixth in singles.
State:
The El Dorado High School boys tennis team competed at the state tournament on May 10 and 11, 2024. Theron Mays and Lane Eck placed sixth as a doubles team. Naman Bhatt and Reece Knight competed in doubles and went 1-2. Peyton Wade competed and went 0-2.
Grandview fifth grade presents historical exhibits
Grandview fifth grade students took a deep dive into American History for social studies and presented a Historical Exhibit for the school and parents on May 9, 2024.
Each student selected one of the American historical figures from the 1400s to present day that they had learned about in class. They researched more about the person they chose and created a book to teach others about that person and what significant contribution they made to society.

EHS Golf
AVCTL:
The El Dorado High School golf team competed at the AVCTL tournament at Tall Grass Country Club in Wichita on May 7, 2024. Overall, the team placed fourth in Division IV and Ryan Mitchell placed 17.
Regionals:
The team competed in the regional tournament in Wellington on May 13, 2024. Overall, the team placed ninth. Individually, Zekiah Kern placed 31, Blake Zogleman placed 35, Ryan Mitchell placed 39, and Noah Heilman placed 44.
Patriot League Boys Tennis
The El Dorado Middle School boys tennis team competed at the Patriot League tournament in Haysville on May 6. The tournament was cut short due to inclement weather, so most players were only able to complete one match. Overall, the team placed eighth. Chaz Mullins placed fourth in #4 singles.
Krish Bhakta competed in #1 singles. Jonah Love competed in #2 singles. Jessie Henry competed in #3 singles. Coy Stanley and Jason Judkins competed in #1 doubles. Patrick Andrews and Jaxon Henry competed in #2 doubles.
EHS Girls Swimming
AVCTL:
The El Dorado High School girls swim team competed at AVCTL in Hutchinson on May 10.
Briley Larcom placed first in the 100 backstroke and 100 freestyle. Carly Carter placed third in the 100 breaststroke.
State:
State swimming took place on May 17 and 18, 2024.
Briley Larcom placed fourth in the 50 freestyle, setting a new school record at 24.65. Larcom also placed fifth in the 100 backstroke and was named Second Team All-State.
Carly Carter placed 16 in the 200 IM and se a new personal record in that event.
PIE awards $25K in scholarships to EHS students
Partners in Education Foundation, Inc. (PIE), is proud to announce the 2024 scholarship awards for El Dorado High School graduates. They are awarding about $20,000 in scholarships, plus 64 hours of tuition/fees, etc. for Butler Community College, bringing this year’s future support to almost $25,000.

EHS senior named KS Governor's Scholar
El Dorado High School senior Keylee Faudere was named a KS Governor's Scholar for being in the top one percent of her graduating class. She was recognized at a ceremony on May 5, 2024.

AVCTL:
The El Dorado High School track team competed in the AVCTL meet in Wellington on May 10, 2024.
Individual Results:
Bronson Larimer- 1st in discus; 2nd in shot put
Trevion Franklin – 2nd in 200 meter
Charlie Green – 2nd in long jump
Duke Jensen – 3rd in 400 meter
4 x 400 relay team of Duke Jensen, Trevion Franklin, Charlie Green, and Beau Hall placed 2nd
Regionals:
The track team competed at regionals on May 16, 2024.
Individual Results:

EHS softball qualifies for regionals
The El Dorado High School softball team qualified to compete in the regional tournament on May 14, 2024. They won their first game against Atchinson, but lost the game against Fort Scott, ending their season with a final record of 11-15.
EHS prom royalty candidates visit Homestead residents
EHS prom royalty candidates visited Homestead Assisted Living yesterday to play bingo with the resident. We love that our students like to give back to the community as #PartOfThePride!

Blackmore earns Challenge Award of Merit
We are thrilled to announce that Blackmore Elementary has earned a Challenge Award of Merit from the Confidence in Kansas Public Education Task Force based on students' academic achievements!
Blackmore fourth grade students host play for peers
Blackmore fourth grade students in Mrs. Onek's class did a wonderful job presenting "The Magic Pasta Pot" play on May 20, 2024. They hosted four performances so all of the other classes in their school could see the play. This opportunity exposed them to theatrical arts and allowed them to practice public speaking skills.

USD 490 fifth grade students attended a Career Day at Skelly on May 10, 2024. There were 17 employers from the community who visited with students about careers in their line of work.

Extend JAG-K volunteers at animal shelter
Extend JAG-K students volunteered at the Kansas Humane Society in Wichita on May 8, 2024. Service is what life is all about. Great acts are made up of small deeds.
Extend middle school students tour EMS facility
Extend Middle School students toured Butler County Emergency Medical Services on May 8, 2024. Thank you to Stuart Funk for the informative tour and to all the EMS workers for all they do!
Extend middle school students visit local fire and police stations
El Dorado Extend middle school students toured Fire Station 1 and the El Dorado Police Department on May 15, 2024. They learned about different careers and how knowledge, skills, and perspectives can enhance their personal and professional development.
EMS students attend PROS party at BCC baseball game
To celebrate good attendance, behavior, and academic work, 238 El Dorado Middle School students attended a Butler Community College baseball game on May 4, 2024. The Grizzlies won the doubleheader against the Cloud County Thunderbirds.

HF Sinclair employee visits Social Skills classes
El Dorado Middle School had the pleasure of hosting a fantastic guest speaker, Matt Earnest from HF Sinclair, in Mrs. Vides' class! A big thank you to Matt for sharing his expertise as a Maintenance Craft Area Specialist with our students. From insights into maintenance craft to the skills and techniques essential for keeping things running smoothly and the employees keeping up their certifications, it was an enlightening and engaging session.
A huge shout out to Mrs. Vides for arranging these enriching experience for our students!
EHS baseball team visits Blackmore
The El Dorado High School baseball team visited Blackmore to greet students on May 2, 2024. They even joined in the fun with Kindergarten students who have been having some extra fun with their ABCs - so far, Art, Bubbles & Chalk!

On May 15, 2024, Blackmore fourth and fifth grade classrooms participated in a "Glow Day" where students got to see a new perspective on learning. They participated in a variety of glowing activities throughout the day.

EHS seniors participate in grad walk
Continuing a much-loved tradition in USD 490, the El Dorado High School Class of 2024 participated in a Grad Walk on May 17, 2024. They walked through the halls of EHS, then visited the middle school and each elementary school in their graduation regalia to celebrate their achievement.

EMS sixth grade band and orchestra tour elementary schools
The El Dorado Middle School band and orchestra students toured all three USD 490 elementary schools for a "world tour" to promote fine arts to incoming middle school students on May 13, 2024.
Extend EMS students make art out of collected trash
On May 15, 2024, El Dorado Middle School PE students worked on the PE Standard "respect for others and their atmosphere" by picking up trash and using it to create an art project.
Grandview hosts annual art and writing contest
Grandview Elementary hosted its 13th annual art and writing contest. This year's theme was "Tell Your Story." Awards were distributed on April 30, 2024.

Grandview fourth grade explores world around them
Grandview fourth grade students visited Strataca, the underground salt mine in Hutchinson, Kan. on May 10, 2024. They had fun exploring underground and learning about all fo the different mining equipment used to extract the salt.

On May 14, 2024, the fourth graders enjoyed celebrating Pollination Day thanks to Pheasants Forever and Kansas Wildlife and Parks. They participated in a variety of activities and learned about the various ways plants are naturally pollinated.

Grandview third grade students hosted a wax museum to show what they know about U.S. historical figures on May 17, 2024. They researched for weeks before recording their findings and inviting other students and parents to visit and use the QR codes to hear their stories.

Skelly third grade visists Cosmosphere
Skelly third grade students visited the Cosmosphere in Hutchinson, Kan. the week of May 13, 2024. They participated in hands-on activities, visited Dr. Goddard's lab, and learn about the great space race.

Skelly fifth grade students explored physics by building and launching straw rockets on May 21, 2024. It may be the last week of school, but our teachers are still finding creative ways to keep students learning.

Skelly students share their talents
Skelly students worked on building self-confidence as they shared their skills during the annual talent show on May 21, 2024. There were some wonderful singers, poets, drummers, and skaters.
After the student performances, Mr. Hinton showed a video featuring Wilson's adventures during the school year. For the grand finale, a masked singer made a special performance dressed as Pete the Panther. Five students were allowed to guess who it was, and two of them guessed correctly. It was Mrs. Emma Culbertson!
